Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

The agent was standing in the middle of the lane while the others told her to get out of the car. She accelerated, he sidestepped and shot. Either vid is disturbing, but this one adds some context.Originally posted by BlueK View Post

Who are you going to believe in post-truth America, the president or your lying eyes?
Half of the country will immediately absolve all law enforcement violence because of their implicit trust in them. They will see the video and reason that since he was close to the car and she lurched away, his safety was in danger. And any injury is ultimately her fault since she didn't stop.
But since Trump lies with impunity and gets away with it he has no reason to stop now. The ICE guy most certainly did not get run over."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. There was another angle where you could see that the agent that shot sort of glanced off the front bumper. There was definitely contact. Didn't look like contact that necessitated deadly force, especially since he side-stepped and she was driving away.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

Who gets to decide what necessitates deadly force? My view is if you are accelerating at a cop with your SUV/deadly weapon, he's justified in taking action.Originally posted by falafel View Post

This is a sad situation, compounded by the presence of disruptive individuals who shouldn't be there. It didn't help that this lady decided it would be a good idea to park her SUV sideways in the street.

She was on video backing up, admittedly trying to get away from the ICE trying to open her door. She then accelerated to try to get away. It seems extremely unlikely that she was intentionally trying to hit him.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

Police are not much better at deescalating and choosing non-deadly strategies, but at least they get that training. This was bound to happen, from the way ICE storms into communities and apprehends people with deadly weapons and the obvious lack of rigorous training."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. The one trying to open her door wasn't the one who shot her. The one who shot her was standing in front of the vehicle when she accelerated. It looks like she clipped him as he sidestepped and shot. I think it's dumb to try to judge intent when she's disobeying a legal order and trying to flee.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

I know it's another ICE who shot her. I think there isn't solid evidence that the shooter was directly in front of her. He was close, yes.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

Even if it is dumb disobeying an order, surely there is room to argue that there are better strategies than what happened. He didn't get run over, and a crowd of ICE could have tracked her down later and apprehended her even if she drove away."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. The agent who shot her was standing in the middle of the lane when she accelerated at him. The photo is a split second before. he shot. Reports are that she clipped him as he sidestepped and shot. I can't vouch for the windshield photo, but I grabbed it from a report. The other is a screen cap I took directly from the video.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

What a horrible, avoidable tragedy. Training for ICE personnel has to be modified to appropriately deal with hostile bystanders. If they're going to be regularly deployed to cities/states where they're not receiving local law enforcement support then they should be much better equipped to handle unfriendly crowds. I'm not justifying the actions of the woman or the ICE agent, but this was clearly a failure of training and protocol.
