Even the accuser's best friend contradicted her story. There was no basis for the accusation at all.Originally posted by frank ryan View Post
You don't actually know that.
That's not true, a real investigation wasn't done. I'm sure your mind is made up though."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Sure the best friend thing might affect what she claimed. But she did testify under oath. That, in and of itself, is basis for the accusation. What you or anyone else believes of the veracity of the allegation doesn't change the fact that she came forward. Believe her or not, she testified.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

We might as well say there's no basis for the allegations against Hegseth or Gaetz, since no charges were filed."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

There was a ton of witnesses not spoken to and tips not followed up on. The investigation was BS and just for show. I don't think he was vindicated but even if you do, that investigation was a sham.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

They are the swamp and want to be the deep stateOriginally posted by Harry Tic View Post
It seems like if the Trump administration is actually going to "drain the swamp," it should be a no-brainer that Republicans would wish to conduct extended background checks on every nominee and take vetting more seriously than any previous administration. That's what "drain the swamp" means, right?

As is yours. So opposite sides of the same coin.
I think it merited a more thorough investigation than happened.
But no, I don't know for sure about what happened and am not saying with absolute certainty that all the accusations were truthful.
Moli said they had zero credibility.
"An investigation led by the Democratic senator Sheldon Whitehouse also found that both the Trump White House and the FBI “misled the public and the Senate” about the scope of the investigation it did conduct into the sexual assault allegations by falsely claiming that the FBI had conducted its investigation thoroughly and “by the book”.
Kavanaugh’s confirmation by the Senate seemed to be in doubt after Christine Blasey Ford, a professor at Palo Alto University, alleged he had sexually assaulted her while the two were in high school. A classmate at Yale, named Deborah Ramirez, alleged in a report published by the New Yorker that Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent. Kavanaugh denied both allegations.
The Senate judiciary committee agreed after Ford publicly testified about her allegations that the FBI conduct a supplemental background check to examine those allegations before the full Senate voted on his nomination."
“This report shows that the supplemental background investigation was a sham, controlled by the Trump White House, to give political cover to Senate Republicans and put Justice Kavanaugh back on the political track to confirmation.”
The findings are significant because at least eight senators cited the FBI’s findings – that “no corroborating evidence” had been found to back up the allegations against Kavanaugh – when they voted to confirm the justice. They include the then majority leader, Mitch McConnell, Shelley Moore Capito, former senator Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, Chuck Grassley and Susan Collins.
"In reality, the Whitehouse report claims the FBI’s limited supplemental background investigation involved only a “handful” of interviews of relevant witnesses, and ignored other potential sources, including Kavanaugh himself, Ford, or others who had offered to give the FBI corroborating or otherwise relevant information.
Ford was not interviewed, the report said, even though her attorney repeatedly contacted the FBI directly to request the FBI interview her.
A lawyer for Ramirez provided lists of suggested witnesses to the FBI, including a list of 20 additional witnesses likely to have relevant information who Ramirez suspected could corroborate her account."

Due to personal sensitivities, I am more inclined than anyone to simply believe the accuser. The challenge I have with your assertion, and the article you linked, is the last paragraph ...Originally posted by frank ryan View Post

"They conspired, with the FBI complicit, to silence those who offered important evidence, including one college classmate who ‘saw Mr Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different drunken dorm party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student.’ We also know that this will likely result in no consequences for those involved, though it should.”
The FBI also declined to pursue information it received through the agency’s tip line. The tips were forwarded directly to the White House."
The hyperbole that people were silenced is deceitful. The insinuation that any supposed evidence from a tip line etc. is "important" is problematic. Potential evidence of one incident does not mean the earlier incident occurred, especially considering—based on the evidence that was uncovered—the timeline of Blasey Ford's recollections cannot be corroborated by her best friend and don't match up with Kavanaugh's calendared life.
And comparing this to the Gaetz situation as Northwest has done is absurd:

I'd be surprised if it's just the GOP and if it really is lopsided right now, if that holds over time.Originally posted by chrisrenrut View PostI think all GOP congresspeople emails should end their signatures with “keep it in your pants”.
GOP? More like GrOPe. The number of high-level republicans that have credibly been accused of sexual assault of some sort is astounding. Almost like it’s a prerequisite.

I don’t know. The Dems seem to police themselves better. Remember Al Franken? I think they learned a good lesson after Bill Clinton.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

Re-pubes seem to celebrate and elevate this kind of behavior. Even holier-than-thou Mike Johnson seems ok with this stuff.
