Oh, and I strongly recommend this essay by David Brooks (overall, a pretty solid conservative, honest!) about How Trump Will Fail. The opening paragraph is a little petty (but funny!), but he does a good job explaining why Trump loves the late 1800s and uses them as a model for what he wants to do.

I didn't see that. He really was overwhelming us with all the horseshit he is doingOriginally posted by LVAllen View PostSo... no one is mentioning that Trump is just shutting down 10% of the US GDP overnight by freezing grants, loans, etc.?
Curtis Yarvin, Peter Thiel and Musk seem invested about breaking the government. They use loaded terms like "regulatory state." But they are in favor of the state collapsing.

And the news is reporting that ICE is saying that schools are not off-limits. Evil.
Also reporting that the Navajo Nation has reported that 15(?) of its members have been stopped on the street by ICE with some being detained. WTF?Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

He's prolific. Start with Fetterman and Vance. Those are the two that roped me in. I skip most of them except those I mentioned along with Marc Andreessen, and Mike Rowe. Marc Now that I think of it Andreessen was illuminating.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI have never had the time or patience to listen to a complete JR podcast. How frequently does he release them?

They are probably looking for illegals stealing all those great jobs on reservations. It's crippling our economy.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostAnd the news is reporting that ICE is saying that schools are not off-limits. Evil.

Yes, a nice little dictatorial move there to take away the Constitutionally given power of the purse from Congress.Originally posted by LVAllen View PostSo... no one is mentioning that Trump is just shutting down 10% of the US GDP overnight by freezing grants, loans, etc.?
The economic impact could be pretty significant while this works through the courts.
This along with eventual tariffs and other dumb stuff he's trying to do makes me think he will end up crashing the economy.

This is why I think it is dumb to get caught up with things like whether something is a Nazi salute or not.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI didn't listen to the NYT Daily podcast today but my wife did. She said that Steven Miller, et al. have worked with Trump to prep this tsunami of executive actions, knowing full well that many of them will not pass constitutional muster. However, by dropping them all at once the objective is to overwhelm your political opponents and they end up not putting up anywhere near as effective a resistance as they could if you dropped them one by one over time. Pretty brilliant (and diabolical) strategy, if you ask me.
These things are meant to distract and while significant if it truly is a dog whistle, the opposition has to truly pick their battles here if they want to have any credible pushback. If they throw a fit for everything, the public, in general, is going to tire on the whole thing. To a great extent, they already have. Any opposition to trump needs to be laser focused.

Exactly. If you are obsessed about the "nazi salute", it is hard to take you seriously on real issues.Originally posted by beefytee View Post

Identifying it as a Nazi salut is not the same thing as being obsessed. That's a fallacious statement, and shows a lack of sensitivity for what the salut represents. The inability to understand the sensitive nature of the gesture and to minimize it as trolling or awkward behaviour is alarming.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Do we continue to let public discourse descend to those depths, or do we acknowledge it for what it is and demand better? It is not obsessive, or unreasonable to expect someone as overtly political as Musk to be better, in language, gesture and action.
