Would that make them useful for sallies, or are the almost always used for cleanup?

Yeah, I could see the value in using them like that, but it's all explosives with no shrapnel. So I think we have other munitions (particularly with close air support) that would be better suited.

      • Could the DoD just nationalize StarLink for NatSec reasons? Not saying that that would be fair, but FDR nationalized Montgomery Ward during WW2. https://edition.cnn.com/2022/11/04/p...age/index.html

Mobilized October 2nd, KIA October 24th. At this point, Putin is just murdering these guys in slow motion.

          Translation from Telegram post https://t.me/operativnoZSU/53788?single

Another Russian ChMObik paid his debt to Putin in the village of Chervopopivka (Luhansk region).

3 weeks passed from mobilization to burial.

            No gore, just a cemetery.

            • Aftermath of an artillery strike on a Russian position; shows wounded men from a drone, but no gore visible. More instances of what the Dude was saying, Russian troops appearing to just lie still in the hope that they'll survive a little longer. Mute the audio; you're welcome.

              • I've seen stories about mobilized conscripts getting killed within weeks, perhaps even days, after being called up. Maybe they're all reservists, but it doesn't sound like it. I assume that even at the height of the Vietnam War draftees would go to basic and have substantial additional training before catching a flight to Da Nang, but now I wonder if that was correct. The lack of training for the Russians is sad but a good thing for Ukraine that seems to be doing a better job.

                • Combat footage, 1st person, reportedly from a Ukrainian recon unit. Shows close combat (no enemy visible) with semi-auto and grenade launchers. No gore.

                  • The US is sending 1,100 Phoenix Ghost loitering-munitions drones to Ukraine. This will be a new procurement. If these aren't classified, can any of our veterans comment on their use?

The $400 million in aid also includes contracts for 1,100 Phoenix Ghost drones, funding to refurbish 45 tanks and an additional 40 riverine boats.

The Phoenix Ghost drone is an armed “kamikaze drone” that explodes on contact with its target.

The T-72 tanks are being pulled from existing defense industry inventory in the Czech Republic — paid for by The Netherlands — and will have advanced optics, communications and armor packages. They are part of a total package of 90 of the T-72 tanks that will be sent to Ukraine through 2023, the Pentagon said.

A half-assed Google search says it was about six months of basic and "AIT." I'm guessing that's something "infantry training."

I've always thought that the Combat Infantry Badge given to infantry who fought in combat was a special nod to how frickin' deadly being armed infantry really is.

Can't say too much about drone use right now. I'll say this. The use of drones for training is tightly controlled in the US, because there's a problem with the military conducting surveillance of US citizens. There's already conspiracy nuts worried about combined training operations like Jade Helm.

AIT is Advanced Individual Training. That's where you get your Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). The infantry MOS designator is 11B. Combat Engineer is 12B.

Linguist/translator has your name written all over it. You'd be doing classified work.
