Maybe he anticipated that the sanctions wouldn't be particularly burdensome or long-lasting. How did the world react when he invaded Crimea? Georgia? Maybe he was expecting a similar response.

Yeah, me too. At the time, I had a reasonably successful 30-year law practice and a young college grad tried to get me to join his downline. At the end of the presentation, I tried to be nice but I still laughed at what I was certain was a bad idea. Among his canned responses, "But, Donald Trump backs it!!!" The Air Force keeps wanting to decommission our A10 fleet because F35's can supposedly perform ground support missions. I'd be ok with giving Ukraine a few to go crazy on that 40 mile long convoy coming in to Kyiv.

Yeah, the news kept hyping this "40-mile-long coluumn of military vehicles" heading to Kyiv. I'm thinking, that just sounds like a disaster and stupid. Who is running this thing? How do you support that logistically? Where is the off ramp?

Well, I guess gettig rid of Ukranian nazis is not an easy task.

As depressed as I was at the initial invasion, I am very heartened by Europe's response. Their commitments weapons to Ukraine, increase defense spending, and now take Ukraine into the EU would have been unthinkable two weeks ago. Again much of the credit goes to the Ukrainians. They held out long enough for the west finally get on the same page and their resistance is so inspirational it demands support.
