Maybe he anticipated that the sanctions wouldn't be particularly burdensome or long-lasting. How did the world react when he invaded Crimea? Georgia? Maybe he was expecting a similar response."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Trump called Putin's invasion "genius" and "savvy". Russian economy in the toilet, a pariah state, NATO stronger than ever, everyone divesting from Russia, etc. Good call, Trump. You idiot.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostThe only issue with the gas reserves theory is that Russia is alienating its market in order to get gas to market. I mean, the world sanctioned him for Crimea. Bigger real estate = more significant sanctions. Maybe I'm just the beneficiary of 20/20 hindsight....Originally posted by Pelado View Post

Like his keen analysis when he started the Trump mortgage company (RIP) on the eve of the market collapse, “I think it’s a great time to start a mortgage company.” Or when he declared that a (now defunct) videophone company was the wave of the future, just as smartphones were about to enter the market: But give him credit, he’s an all-time great salesman to a market of suckers.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Someone tried to sell me on that videophone. Or, rather, someone tried to sell me on the multi-level marketing company that was using that videophone as its product.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post

Yeah, me too. At the time, I had a reasonably successful 30-year law practice and a young college grad tried to get me to join his downline. At the end of the presentation, I tried to be nice but I still laughed at what I was certain was a bad idea. Among his canned responses, "But, Donald Trump backs it!!!" That didn't sweeten the deal...Originally posted by Pelado View Post

This doesn't sound good, if true... BTW, how long does it take for a missile flying at mach 20 to get here from Russia?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...clear-war.htmlPutin 'moves family members to Siberian 'underground city' designed to survive a nuclear war', says Russian professor who also claimed Vladimir is suffering from secret illness- Valery Solovey, 61, is a political scientist and former professor in Moscow
- He claims Putin has sent his family to a nuclear bunker in the Altai Mountains
- He recently underwent an interrogation for claims he made about Putin
- Solovey believes Putin is struggling with physical and mental illnesses
The luxury hi-tech bunker is located in the Altai Mountains and was designed for protection in the event of nuclear war, said political scientist Valery Solovey, 61.
Formerly a professor at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) - attended by future top diplomats and spies, Solovey has previously alleged Putin suffers medical problems hidden from the Russian public, and has taken part in bizarre secret shamanic rituals alongside his defence minister Sergey Shoigu.

The Air Force keeps wanting to decommission our A10 fleet because F35's can supposedly perform ground support missions. I'd be ok with giving Ukraine a few to go crazy on that 40 mile long convoy coming in to Kyiv.Originally posted by old_gregg View Post

My mom's uncle had a major leadership role in the design and development of the A-10. It was fun to talk with him about it - he could not have been more proud.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

Yeah, the news kept hyping this "40-mile-long coluumn of military vehicles" heading to Kyiv. I'm thinking, that just sounds like a disaster and stupid. Who is running this thing? How do you support that logistically? Where is the off ramp?Originally posted by old_gregg View Post

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

As depressed as I was at the initial invasion, I am very heartened by Europe's response. Their commitments weapons to Ukraine, increase defense spending, and now take Ukraine into the EU would have been unthinkable two weeks ago. Again much of the credit goes to the Ukrainians. They held out long enough for the west finally get on the same page and their resistance is so inspirational it demands support.
