Seems to me going ahead with the marathon is a bad idea.

Yeah, I'm as crazy a runner as the next guy, but I think they should postpone it for a few weeks. Logistically I understand that is difficult. Glad I didn't draw out this year.

Against type, SU is right. The thought of a hurricane in NY/NJ terrified me and that was before I went through a major one myself. They need to thank whatever deity they believe in that it was just Sandy and not Ike/Rita/Katrina/Andrew etc. that hit.

Ha! The mayor complains (probably wrongly) that the utility is helping rich people first. The poor people throw eggs at the workers. The workers leave.

Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to just shut off everyone's power until the whole distribution system is fixed, then you could turn on everyone's power at the same time. That sounds equal right?

New Yorkers maybe some of the toughest people on earth. I think they proved that on 9-11 and the days that followed. I mention that only because I think they will be less vocal than others might. I know, for example, that some people are upset about the marathon going on but plenty of others seem to have set their jaws and are saying "you're damn right we're still having it."

I think their experience is what has made them tough. My comment was not at the expense of Katrina's victims.

Actually, I think that if it happens in New York it's always a much bigger story.

As for their "experience," 9/11 was horrific but 99% of New Yorkers were affected no more directly than you or I were (I'm assuming you had no relatives in either tower, if you did my apologies).
