Supposedly the guy painted his hair red and said he was the Joker. (I know the Joker has green hair).Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Yes, they caught him. Apparently they are investigating his apartment where it's suspected he has a bomb....at least that's what NPR said this morning.Originally posted by SuperGabers View PostHow did they catch the guy? Actually, this guy seems like he was truly insane.Originally posted by Topper View PostOutside of living under strict marshal law, these sorts of tragedies may not be avoidable. Somebody, somehow goes whacko, and everybody wishes to pontificate how it could have been prevented.

This movie was a preview for the TDK. During the preview it has a scne where gansters shoot up a movie theatre.
It looks like Warner Bro's has pulled the preview from TDK now. I don't blame them in this not happening quickly. I believe this is attached to TDK reel so this could be a costly expense....
To think these people watched this preview prior to the movie and then it happened to them in real life..

This tragic event doesn't bode well for the movie industry. I hope the poor owner of that theater has business interruption insurance. It may not be long before we all just watch DVDs.
Economic consequences do not matter nearly as much as twelve dead and others possibly disabled. But there are reverberations of violence aside from the bloodshed or loss of loved ones that are still very damaging and painful to innocent people.
9/11 has taken some of the fun out of Washington DC. It used to be you could just wander into the Capitol. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

This guy shot 71 people. It's a miracle that more people didn't die.
Although I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty, I do think drawing and quartering should be brought back in exceptional cases.Part of it is based on academic grounds. "Today we feel not only a sense of grief, but perhaps also of helplessness. But there is something we can do," Romney said. "We can offer comfort to someone near us who is suffering or heavy-laden. We can mourn with those that mourn in Colorado."

Wasn't the guy wearing body armor? I don't think multiple people firing shots in a confined space would've improved the situation, especially when you factor in the gas canister.
But really sad stuff. My cousin's husband has a cousin who was injured in the shooting, and his wife's going through labor at the hospital this morning."I don't know the origin of said bitch booming."-Art Vandelay

I'm interested in arguments coming from both sides of the gun debate as they comment on this horrific event. Predictably, the gun control types insist stricter laws would have prevented this (see, e.g., HuffPo). Equally predictable, others say that if one or more in the audience had been carrying, they could have taken the guy out long before 72 had been killed or injured.
I'm unconvinced stricter laws would have prevented this guy from getting weapons. On the other hand, the guy was wearing all sorts of protective gear and with the smoke and tear gas billowing in the theater, I wonder if more guns would have added to, not reduced, the carnage.
