Politically speaking, Obama has been the benficiary of crises and extremely weak opponents with the likely result being two terms. He's a lot like W in that way.
The frustrating thing for me is I don't think Romney is a weak candidate, but his campaign certainly has been.

If not for his brothers disastrous and controversial presidency, I think Jeb would have been an interesting candidate in 2012. Right now I think the country still is suffering from W fatigue, which is unfortunate, because Jeb would be an immediate lock in Texas and Florida, as well as very persuasive with Hispanics and Jews nationwide. Ive always liked Jeb and still hope he runs. Maybe in 2016 when it wil be wide open.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI have heard this from lots of people. But what candidate not in the race could beat Obama? There is nobody IMO.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

Right. In my head I was making a list of guys out there. Bush? Too close. Rubio? Too young. Palin? Too stupid. Christie? Too fat. Pawlenty? Too weak.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf not for his brothers disastrous and controversial presidency, I think Jeb would have been an interesting candidate in 2012. I think Bush needs another 4 years distance between he and his bro before anyone takes him seriously."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Doesn't Mitt have about the same number of delegates that McCain had 4 years ago? Only 5 states have committed delegates so far. We are a long, long way from a brokered convention.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostAre we headed for a brokered convention? It is looking more and more likely. Crazy.
What is so great about Jeb? I've never known. I know that he would be a pro-amnesty type of guy, so he's vulnerable on that issue in the republican primary.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf not for his brothers disastrous and controversial presidency, I think Jeb would have been an interesting candidate in 2012. His stances as cited here: http://www.issues2000.org/Jeb_Bush.htm don't elicit much excitement. As he's never served in the federal government, they don't list his stances on national issues, but where they do, he's not very conservative i.e. immigration, school, federal spending. That's fairly typical for a governor. But, as irrational as the decision may be, I don't ever see myself for another Bush.

Jeb could beat Obama if the economy remains stagnant. Of course Romney could beat him too, but the economic news would have to be even worse than it would with Jeb. Jeb is waiting until 2016. He's got one shot and he's not going to waste it in 2012.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI have heard this from lots of people. But what candidate not in the race could beat Obama? It amazes me that there are still people who don't see through her. I'll admit to being intrigued when McCain selected her, but she has since lost most every shred of credibility.Originally posted by scottie View Post
She couldn't make it through a term as governor, she didn't want to run a grueling primary campaign, but "all bets are off" in a brokered convention, where she'd be "willing to offer up [herself] in service to [her] country."
The party better not be stupid enough to put her anywhere near the ticket. Maybe she's still just angling for Gingrich in hopes of getting some cabinet position."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

The name Bush carries far too much baggage and will for the forseeable future.
Of course, I'm not politico, so I am probably wrong.

I am totally with you. I don't think the Bush name is electable for at least a generation or more (which would be about 5-6 election cycles at a minimum)Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostI think Bush will always be unelectable.

He'll be plenty electable in 2016. Bush 41 was a one term president and his son got elected 8 years later. People are going to hate having another Democrat in the White House in another 4 years. Hell, if unemployment starts ticking up over 9% again I think he could get elected this year. Of course, so could Romney.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostI am totally with you. And this Bush would have Florida in the bag along with all the states McCain won in 2008. Add in Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia and he'd just about be where he needs to be in electoral votes, I think he'd still need a couple states like Colorado and Nevada.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Look at the amount of drama that follows her. She's low class. She's part of the Jerry Springer crowd. Bush senior did not have nearly the stigma of Bush jr by the time he left office the second time around and the hatred has even grown since he has left.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostHe'll be plenty electable in 2016.
