His thin grasp on my vote just slipped away. As much as it pains me to have my candidate take his orders from Rome, I guess I'll have to live with it. Rome kicks Salt Lake City's ass anyway. There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

When the media and Romney's opponents talk about how he isn't a true conservative, and about how they aren't sure what he believes, "conservative" is code for "Christian."
When they frame Romney as having loads of money and a great national network they are framing him the same way they have framed institutional Mormonism for the last 15 years or so. It's boilerplate "Mormons Inc."We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

I think that may be true for Sarah Palin*, but I don't necessarily think that applies to the electorate at large.Originally posted by Sleeping in EQ View PostWhen the media and Romney's opponents talk about how he isn't a true conservative, and about how they aren't sure what he believes, "conservative" is code for "Christian."

I think what they're really saying is that they don't think he's a true social conservative, which he probably isn't. If Romney had always been as socially conservative as most active Mormons in the US, he'd face far fewer questions about his conservatism.
If you're looking for a social conservative crusader - Santorum's the guy. Personally, social conservatism is much less important to me than fiscal conservatism. I think Romney can make a better case for fiscal conservatism than either Gingrich or Santorum.

I can't believe intrade still has Romney at over 70% to win the Republican nomination. Right now, it looks like Santorum is going to beat him in Michigan -- and I think that would lead to serious problems for Romney a week later on Super Tuesday.
The tide is going to have to turn against Santorum within a week, or I think Romney isn't going to win the nomination. If he doesn't perform well on March 6, I just don't see how he gets enough delegates in the end.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

If it's a Chrysler, then technically it's an Italian car since Fiat controls the company, or at least has a significant stake in the company.Originally posted by YOhio View Post
In any case "Buy American" is a farce. Supply chains are so integrated around the world that it's almost impossible to find a major product that wasn't engineered, mined, grown, smelted, forged, constructed, assembled, or sold somewhere outside the USA.
I would like to hear Santorum say that Chrysler is not an American brand. That wouldn't go over too well in Detroit."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Agree. Should Mitt drive a Toyota assembled in America instead? Is that an American car? Besides, if Mitt is driving a Chrysler 300 then he's got my vote. So Romney's holding a rally in the Boise area today. I'll try to swing over there if I can."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Why is Romney holding a rally in Boise of all places? Wouldn't he do better to be working Michigan and Ohio?Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Idaho's caucus is on Super Tuesday.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostWhy is Romney holding a rally in Boise of all places? Wouldn't he do better to be working Michigan and Ohio?
He had a fundraiser downtown before the rally ($1,000 per plate minimum - I didn't attend). Tomorrow he's in Salt Lake for the 10th anniversary of the SLC Olympic Games.
Santorum was here yesterday, Ron Paul will be in town tomorrow. Gingrich doesn't matter.Last edited by Pelado; 02-17-2012, 07:28 PM."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Only three options I see:Originally posted by pellegrino View PostWhy is Romney holding a rally in Boise of all places? Wouldn't he do better to be working Michigan and Ohio?
1. He is running a bad campaign and wasting time in Boise best spent in Michigan- a state it appears he will lose
2. His internals suggest he needs to be in Idaho to help push for a win there (which is really bad news for him if true)
3. He is fundraising and knows Idaho will put out.
I doubt Romney is hard on cash, and now isn't the time for him to be glad handing for money. So I suspect it's either 1 or 2. Either way, he's in big trouble.
