One series of incidents, perhaps spanning a specific time frame and perhaps not a permanent situation is empirical evidence? I live in the country and rely on the health system in question and yet my evidence is anecdotal?

    lol
I provided ACTUAL research and you dismissed it because you think the frasier institute is evil.

Additionally, the American Magazine is like Time or Newsweek. But I guess they aren't very reputable.
HOW MANY incidents are being cited? It's ONE news story about one set of circumstances. Honestly, can you not see the inherent danger in citing ONE set of circumstances in a effort to paint the entire situation with one broad brush?

And it's not ALL OVER the internet. It's ONE story all over the internet!

I don't think the Frazier Institute is evil. Never said so. Just simply pointed out that they have an agenda. Actually, I like their agenda -- it's very conservative for Canada. I'd like Canada to be more conservative.

What's more you provided tid bits from actual research, not the WHOLE research Dude, I actually live here and access the health system in question.

So I can surmise that because this story has been all over the internet every house in East Detroit is selling for $1?

This is a pipe dream. We are no longer a free society. Taxpayer money is stolen and given to elite groups and friends of politicians. We waste vast amounts of money waging unnecessary wars in foreign lands. We are getting all the shitty parts of capitalism and very little of the good. It's time to embrace our socialist government and at least get something out of it. Universal Healthcare is the first thing I want. In 2005, the U.S. spent 15% GDP insuring a small amount of Americans. France spent 10.7% insuring everyone. Their healthcare system is superior to ours and it's not even close. I would be happy to be a military pussy like France in exchange for not worrying about whether my kids will be able to see a doctor if they are sick. Keep our nukes and tell the rest of the world that we are scaling back our conventional army, but won't hesitate to use the nukes. Don't believe us? Ask Japan!
I wonder why this actress was flown from Canada to the US for care since very politician thinks our healthcare quality sucks.

And if we believe Obama, they're the only ones who will pay for it.

Not really. We'll all pay for it. Take out the billions of dollars of profit from the health insurance companies, negotiate fair rates with hospitals, and take away the need to bribe politicians. There is already enough money for this. I propose we kill a few less people and heal a few more. It could be modeled after the CHIP program. You pay up to 5% of your income out of pocket.

Health insurance companies hire full-time people to find ways not to pay claims. I'll try to find some links to congressional testimony. People pay premiums their whole lives only to have their claims denied.

BH, I missed your whole thread, but it's unbelievable how broken the system is. We pay more for lesser care than anyone else in the world. People argue that they don't want to have to pay for the health care of those who can't afford it -- they don't realize that we already are.

What it comes to is that the government either needs to get the hell out of health care, or provide it universally. The former is certainly never going to happen, so we have to hope for the latter. The unhappy hybrid that we're currently stuck with is neither effective nor affordable. It's certainly not sustainable.

                      • As a fellow person "in the trenches", I recognize that there are problems that go beyond having opportunities. We need to work to change those aspects of cultural poverty that bring about generational suffering, but we also need to make sure that opportunities are available. A while back Robin posted a letter from one of my students. I am happy to report that my student is currently interviewing with a number of schools, including Dartmouth and Harvard. Remember, this girl is currently homeless, living in a shelter. In even the roughest corners where Americans are experiencing deeply impoverished conditions, there are always people ready to take advantage of opportunity.[/QUOTE]

I just wanted to let you all know that I just found out that my student who has been homeless for most of her life has just received acceptance letters from Harvard and Columbia Universities.

Faith, congratulations. that is some really nice news to hear this evening.

As we all know on CUF, only the best and the brightest get into Harvard without being waitlisted!
