I was talking to one of my sons best friends who is also a Sheriff. We were talking about training and he said it is much improved over what it was about 20 years ago when he joined the force.

Even with all the trainiing in an excercise they have with various situations, he did get his partner shot once by being hesitant. What an awful situation to be placed in whether the policeman or the suspect.

Very. The killer was shot in the stomach by the officer's .40 and it didn't even seem to faze him. The officer was hit multiple times with the death shot coming when he was shot through the eye after the killer stood over him. The killer was put to death last year.

Aside from the war on drugs (which I think is responsible for most of this) I think the fact that cops carry guns at all is part of the problem. Now, we live in a country where criminals carry guns so I'm not saying take the guns away from the cops, but I would really like to see more innovation by way of non-lethal law enforcement submission technology. I'm not an engineer so I don't like my odds of thinking one up, but I gotta think someone could, especially if given enough incentive.

I would love to see the Federal Government set up a contest of sorts with a massive reward to the engineer who can design a workable prototype non-lethal hand-held weapon that can be used to neutralize any assailant and whatever weapon they're carrying (knife, gun, golfclub, whatever). I think the Taser was a nice start but has a lot of limitations and apparently cops only use those on streakers during football games, not actual situation where a suspect is armed.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg probably doesn't own a Kaepernick jersey.

Speaking to Yahoo! on Monday morning, Ginsburg had some harsh words for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and other players who have decided to kneel during the national anthem in protest of racial inequality.

"I think it's really dumb of them," Ginsburg said. "Would I arrest them for doing it? No. I think it's dumb and disrespectful. I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning. I think it's a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn't lock a person up for doing it.

"If they want to be stupid, there's no law that should be preventive," Ginsburg said. "If they want to be arrogant, there's no law that prevents them from that. What I would do is strongly take issue with the point of view that they are expressing when they do that."

Well, that didn't take very long.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is apologizing for characterizing as "dumb and disrespectful" the national anthem protests by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and other athletes.

The court released a statement from Ginsburg on Friday in which she said she was barely aware of the anthem protest and that her comments were "inappropriately dismissive and harsh."

"Some of you have inquired about a book interview in which I was asked how I felt about Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players who refused to stand for the national anthem," Ginsburg's statement read. "Barely aware of the incident or its purpose, my comments were inappropriately dismissive and harsh. I should have declined to respond."
