I debated whether to put this here, or in another thread and decided it fits best when discussing the other prominent New York City socialist:

Socialism’s American Comeback Might Have an Unlikely Leader: Donald Trump

Newsweek provides in-depth analysis on news, world events, politics, business, tech, entertainment, healthcare, & trending videos. Subscribe for breaking news alerts!

"Many have argued, however, that Trump is embracing policies—from state control over the means of production to government intervention in private industry—that could be associated with the “menace” about which he is now fretting. For his critics, the contradiction is becoming harder to ignore."

I definitely don't disagree with this take. There isn't much difference between what Trump is doing economically and what Mahmdami wants to do. As many people say, the political spectrum is more of a circle and the extreme fringes of the sides pretty much touch each other.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

          Huh? .

Mahmdami is all about social programs. Trump is doing the project 2025 things and gutting social programs and consumer protection checks. He is about shifting wealth to the rich. Mahmdami is about redistriputing wealth downward.

Trump is about corporatism. Mahmdami is socialist

First off, you are assuming that the best way to redistribute wealth and to help people out of poverty is to increase social programs. I'd dispute that assumption as there's evidence contrary to it. That's not to say that social programs are not needed as they clearly are. You also are insinuating that Trump doesn't want to help the poor and the blue collar workers. He clearly does and they are the reason he's president. Whether or not his policies have done that is another matter.

Instead of using fair and capitalistic practices to allocate funds for programs and projects, they create other criteria that ensure the money goes to the people they like and the people that support them. It's corruption no matter how you look at it.

Bill Maher gives another opening salvo on his show to the Democrat Party beginning to lose their identity to communist’s cloaked in the DSA.

James Carville recently spoke to this and his party being taken over by extremist in the DSA.

Gavin Newsome openly welcomes the DSA into Dem party to over take congress

Mamdani continues to do what he does.. All cloaked in blurring the line of socialism while quoting Marxism. (From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs)..

The DSA is making alarming progress in the Dem party and there are those who think on their utopian ideals that they can all play under the same tent, but the reality is one will eventually eat the other. And as of right now.. Communism seems to be the Soup De Jour for young Americans who have been raised to hate the fundamental ideas of capitalism and hard work.

Promise to America Initiative pledged by 2-democrats got 13 signatures from its own party of 212 house members. The pledge was the support of capitalism and not socialism.

The announcement came two days after candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America won House Democratic primaries in New York, which followed last week’s victory by Janeese Lewis George, another DSA-backed candidate, in D.C.’s mayoral primary.

“They should not be the face of our party,” said Jessica Killin, a Democratic candidate running in a competitive Colorado district. “We need to be organized and clear in our vision.”

Killin is one of the 13 who signed on to the “Promise to America” initiative that commits candidates to a set of centrist principles, including capitalism, fiscal discipline, strong borders and pride in the United States.

Meh. It raises eyebrows because he's the elected leader of a city that has more people than a lot of states. But is this really 2 standard deviations away from other city ordinances, like alcohol-related or traffic rules?
