A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To Jerusalem: Gaza/Israel conflict

Egypt is refusing to allow a humanitarian camp on its border with Gaza. Hamas isn't allowing it's citizens to evacuate cities. Hamas leaders saying publicly that the greatest honor of a Palestinian is to die in the crusade to eliminate Jews. You are correct that atrocities beget atrocities. In this incident, the atrocities lay only at the feet of Hamas.

maybe start with this:Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post
What Hamas did was barbaric, but try to explain to the kid whose apartment and family were just blown up by an Israeli air strike the difference.

I have been emailing my Israeli friend. They live in a kibbutz near Tel Aviv. They are OK but their two boys are military age now and are off to battle.

I saw a short clip of an interview an official from Hamas yesterday - one of his comments that really stood out to me was essentially that Israel is known to value life, meanwhile, the greatest honor for any Palestinian is to die fighting for Allah. My takeaway is that they really don't care about death or how many die. It isn't necessarily even about winning the war. It's about killing as many as they can - while dying in the right way.
He also makes a statement to the effect of Why wouldn't the US negotiate a prisoner swap with us? They did with Iran.

Israel saying that no water or power will be allowed in to Gaza until hostages are returned. Seems like a pretty significant trump card.
Meanwhile, IDF just bombed the Damascus airport because Iran was flying in military supplies to Hezbollah.

This has the potential to backfire for Israel. Keeping water from civilians (even if some of those civilians are holding your citizens hostage) can look bad once kids and old ladies start dying of thirst.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIsrael saying that no water or power will be allowed in to Gaza until hostages are returned. Where did you see the airport bombing? I can't find it on the social media website formally known as Twitter nor the NYT website.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIsrael saying that no water or power will be allowed in to Gaza until hostages are returned. I wonder if it’ll look worse than shooting babies and holding hundreds of civilians hostage and killing thousands of unarmed civilians. At least Israel is giving Hamas the choice to have their people suffer or not. Israel wasn’t given the choice.Originally posted by Applejack View Post

Looks like they may have just damaged the runways, not the actual buildings, planes, etc."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Hamas is literally the governing body in Israel. They have the power to turn over the hostages.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

In the Hamas official interview I linked above, one of the things he mentioned was a "front" being opened on the other side of the country by Hezbollah launching missiles now - and that they'd be able to reach all of Israel due to attacking from multiple sides. Seemed to be implying that this was an attack on Israel that was going to expand - but then it really didn't. There may have been a few missiles initially - which may have been enough for Israel to say "Yeah, no. Nothing is getting into the West Bank to potentially supply additional attacks." But it wasn't much of an attack, all things considered, and didn't seem to last long.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostIsrael saying that no water or power will be allowed in to Gaza until hostages are returned. My search skills must not be great. I didn't get anything recent, just older news stories. I believe you though.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post
