  • A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To Jerusalem: Gaza/Israel conflict

This seemed to be a pretty significant bit of news. There are all sorts of takes that can be had:
    1. GQP clowns in Congress have dramatically reduced our responsiveness, whether by not having a Speaker, not confirming hundreds of military promotions, not yet confirming the US Ambassador to Israel, etc.
    2. Twitter used to be a go-to resource for breaking global news. Elon has completely broken that. He openly recommended two twitter feeds, one of which is pretty clearly antisemitic (past tweet: "Mind your own business, Jew.")
    3. The speed and coordination of the Gaza strike may suggest involvement of additional countries.
    4. This was a massive intelligence failure from guys who aren't known for intelligence failures.
    5. The Iron Dome seems to be effective.

I still haven't fully processed what has taken place (and we don't even know the full impact) . The images I've seen have horrified me more than anything I have seen in media. There has been unfathomable atrocities committed by Russian forces in Ukraine. But they didn't film it in real time and proudly broadcast it out into the world. I am a firm believer in some forms of bothsidesism. But the scale of this makes it impossible. The celebration of the rape and slaughter of women, children, and the elderly makes this impossible. The celebration of these rapes and murders by "human rights activists" and Islamic extremesists living in the west makes this impossible.

Iran seems to be the major planner. Hope Israel finds a way to hit Iran's leaders.

Never thought they'd resort to kidnapping kids tbh

gaza has forfeited its right to exist free of a constant idf presence. the only positive that will come of this is israel’s conclusive taking of land from groups who have refused to acknowledge its right to exist. if war is coming with iran, now is the time for it to happen. if russia is even capable of intervention, it will not be a serious intervention.

American soft power if gutted. That has not helped the overall situation.
Netanyahu is only capable of conflict, so this plays into his skillset. Otherwise, he's an awful leader.
Russia had to at least give a wink at Iran to okay this happening, so much for Israel's detente with Russia.
Hamas doesn't engender sympathy when they do shit like kidnapping. They can't claim any moral high ground.

            Yikes if true.

Israelis can be arrogant about their intelligence gathering in the West Bank and Gaza. That arrogance caught up with them.

            Anyway, please destroy Hamas.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I don't condone what Hamas did, but I do know that Netanyahu is a prick and that diplomacy is not his thing. It wouldn't surprise me if Netanyahu knew it might happen and didn't care to stop it, because now he has the green light to do whatever it takes to take back Gaza. And yeah, I'm know I'm cynical, but that doesn't mean I'm not right.

Yeah, that is cynical, and conspiratorial. Add this to your conspiracy: Bibi was fighting with opposition Israelis who held numerous protests against Bibi's plans to gut the Israeli judicial system. Groups of reservists (pre-Hamas attack) even threatened to not report to the next call up as a protest against Bibi. Obviously, the focus has changed.

                Anyway, destroy Hamas.

Do you think Israel is going to stop after razing Gaza or will they take this fight to Iran?

I have been thinking that any Mosad presence in Iran will become very active in the next few months. I don't think there will be any overt action but I also think the covert action will not be as covert as it may have been. Kind of a "Yeah its us. What are you going to do about it?"

I've seen reports saying this is categorically false and is being refuted by both the Israelis and Egyptians.

                        Which means it's probably true.

I hate to be a cynic, but Netanyahu needs this type of instability to stay in power. Both Egypt and Israel have the motive to lie. This could get even uglier.

Do you know why I don't dismiss the allegations that Netanyahu was indifferent to the Hamas attack? It's because I know that Netanyahu is just the other side of the Trump shekel, and that shekel loves chaos and doesn't care what burns to stay in power. And sadly, it's working.

I’m probably the least informed on this board about the conflict in the Middle East but I can confidently say that Palestine don’t looking very good right now given they appear indifferent or supportive of the kidnapping, rape, murder and threatened murder of hostages. It’s despicable and could possibly change the view of Palestine for many young people watching…many of which are probably Palestinian sympathizers just because they are more liberal.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
