Ok, what are viable options outside of Trump or Biden?Originally posted by falafel View Post
This is why people refuse to engage with you. You frame arguments in ways that only you can win, and then always claim victory. We can't have an honest discussion if you have already narrowed the focus to a single issue. Here, you have already determined that the only "successful answer" is a response that doesn't give Trump an "advantage" (as if that term weren't incredibly vague).

No, a bunch of people have sympathy for them. Trump has made the participants central to his campaign. He is already planning to pardon all coup attempters. When he latched his campaign this election he did it while showcasing a choir of convicts related to J6. A lot Republicans believe they were innocent tourists.Originally posted by Moliere View Post
It was a coup attempt but it was never going to be a real coup. Like you said, no one other than a bunch of crazy people and ultra conserative politicians went along with it. It was DOA. It was horrible, but the republic was never in real jeopardy.
I'd encourage you go back and watch the J6 footage and read some relevant media.

I know you find it funny to worry about the future of the Republic. The whole concepts of checks and balances have been under consistent stress because of a man who tried to overthrow election results.Originally posted by All-American View Post
You need to not consider him even harder or else America dies.
There is a great deal of daylight between Trump and Biden in terms of what they could do that is harmful.
It's not silly to worry about a guy who is already predicting, if not encouraging bloodshed, should he lose.
Various GOP politicians and media influencers are talking about the specter of civil war.
That should be seen as frightening. Trump has shown he tries to do a lot of the awful and dumb things he says he will do.

Part of the human response when confronted with crisis or danger is 'well it could never happen here,' or 'it could never happen to me.' Absolutely nobody in Italy thought Mussolini would snap his fingers and go from Prime Minister to dictator. But he exhibited many of the same authoritarian signals, habits, language, and tendency that Trump is now. And Trump isn't even hiding it. The quiet part out loud is his specialty. But we're invincible, I guess...Originally posted by frank ryan View Post

No no no- go back to sleep. Definitely doesn't warrant your concern. Go write in Mitt Romney or whatever-- America would NEVER elect someone like Trump...Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

I think that's a bit hyperbolic. I'm not frightened or even pessimistic, but I am definitely concerned. Honestly, I'd be a bit more apathetic if I was living in Utah, knowing my vote wasn't really going to help matters (They ought to bifurcate those electoral votes like they do in Nebraska). While many are insisting correctly that we would not descend to 1939 Germany instantly, they do not understand or acknowledge how bad it would suck in America or how quickly things would descend into chaos with Stephen Miller as Chief of Staff to a President Trump.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Frank, what do you want us to do here that will make a difference? Is freaking out and losing sleep going to make a difference?
Seems like a big part of the problem with the country right now is people freaking out and making decisions based on anger and fear.
I'm not saying there isn't peril. I just don't know the best way to approach it and don't think the answer is anger and fear.
