One of these days you are going to make a political post where you don't go into your typical scold mode. It will be quite a moment."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

You guys need to vote for democrats until MAGA is dead, it’s the only rational way forward.
Things aren’t changing in the party, time to move on and let the party die and hopefully resurrect it with sane folks in 4-6 years.

I am a fiscal conservative and a small government classical liberal, in what world would I reward the bad policies of the democratic party to punish the bad policies of the MAGA GOP? Instead, I will either not vote or vote for a 3rd party that more aligns with my policy preferences (not the Mises controlled LNP). I will signal in my (admittedly insignificant) way where my preferences are and if someone wants my vote they should adopt those policies. The democratic party are not the good guys either.

Rather than not voting I have voted largely for the LNP's candidates but I have voted for independents and even green party candidates. I figure that I need to vote to send a signal.Originally posted by USUC View Post

I'm liberal, but less so in some than I used to be. However, for me, it is not about the greatness of democratic ideas or plans but the dangerousness of MAGAism. That movement and its leaders are an existential threat to the republic. Jan 6 should have drilled that point home for a lot of people. That is not an irrational or hyperbolic statement, unfortunately. I respect your ideological position but I don't think the GOP is what is used to be. They have become the Party of Russia and Assad and Putin. They flirt with antisemitism.Originally posted by USUC View Post

The anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr is running for President... as a democrat, of course.

but who could have seen the corruption of the gop comingOriginally posted by USUC View PostI'm really disheartened by the GOP polling I'm seeing. A couple of GOP polling experts I follow seem to be especially down today after an election in Wisconsin yesterday too. Trump has broken the GOP but he's also allowed the Dems to continue bad policy without electoral consequences. Only death will end Trump's hold on the party but who knows how long before the populism fades.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

Where was Elon born?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Well I'm sorry I don't have a better metaphor for Elon. 'Born on Third Base' will have to suffice for purposes of this thread.Originally posted by Moliere View Post
You were born on third base. In fact, as a white American male you were basically born five feet from home plate."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Get away from baseball. You see, you were born at the 10 yard line (20 yard line for me as I'm only at the 15 now) and Elon was born at the two. Football yardage is the perfect medium for metaphors. One hundred is such a relatable number...Originally posted by Commando View Post

Fifty-five years ago, LBJ announced he wasn't running for reelection two weeks after RFK announced he was running. I'm hoping history repeats itself with Biden announcing he won't be running a few weeks after RFK Jr.'s announcement yesterday. I think Junior's chances are far worse than were those of his father and that his announcement won't move the needle for Biden, But I remain hopeful that Biden will withdraw, realizing he'll be incapable of providing strong leadership by 2029, if not a lot sooner. He could go out now a winner and with a lot of love and respect from most of the country. His announcement could also be phrased in a way to seriously hurt Trump's chances (e.g., a Kennedy-esque "the torch must be passed to a new generation"). Primaries involving a variety of candidates from both parties would be a very good thing for the country.
