Hunt'n fish'n in Nebraska, "a public school teacher, football coach and National Guardsman before he entered politics."
Hunted, fished, worked cattle, bucked hay, slept in the bunkhouse and read National Geographic for the pics articles about faraway lands. Joined the Guard and became an artilleryman. Dad died of cancer two years later, and left his mom with mounds of medical debt. Became a school teacher and football defensive coordinator. Married a school teacher. Took his class to a Bush rally, and got pissed when they were kicked out because of a student's support of Kerry, so he entered politics. Won against a Republican favorite by outworking him. Kept winning. Won reelection in his congressional district even though Trump won it handily.

This dude is rural, small town, bluest of the blue collar, and genuinely seems kind. From his time as the DC: "Walz went out on the field for what proved to be the state championship winning goal line stand, and he had been telling his players all year 'Nobody needs to be a hero. Let's just do our jobs.' He walked out on the field and said, 'Okay, now I need a hero.' One of the kids became the hero, and they won the title." He was also the advisor for the Gay-Straight Alliance club at his high school in 1999.

Yes, had a dui in 1995. Doesn't drink alcohol anymore, just Diet Mt. Dew.

This guy will play in the sticks in a way Shapiro likely wouldn't. He'll play in the area Shapiro would have helped anyway.

When Kamala called him, he refused to answer at first because there was no caller ID. He'll play with Millennials and Gen Z.

        I love this guy.

        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

            • There has been a clear shift in the polls. How far will they slide in the direction of Harris before they stop?

              • Oh this is cute, JD Vance is seems to love a book from one of Ted's favorite twitter people Jack Posobiec (who has been called out as a fascist by me many times), Unhumans. It lionize Francisco Franco and Augusto Pinochet and bemoans democracy. This isn't imaginary or liberal histrionics. Posobiec writes these things and Vance is now spouting it. Candidate eye-liner wrote a blurb for it.

As the title implies, "leftists" are to be regarded as non-people of unhumans. What is horrid about that title is that every brutal conflict that involves entrenched bigotry or genocide is superseded by dehumanizing language. In Rwanda the perpetrating constantly referred to the other as cockroaches on radio broadcasts. Nazi typed Jews as rats. Palestinian militants would have tv shows that portrayed Israelis as rats also iirc. Psychologically, it is instinctually difficult to harm another person without first dehumanizing them.

Words matter. And it's a cheap move to toss out concerns about this rhetoric by calling it snowflake syndrome.

The “unhuman” concept also jells with Donald Trump’s authoritarian description of his political opponents as “vermin.”

Posobiec’s book purports to give its readers strategies to “crush” the unhumans and suggests that it can’t be done through democratic means. “Democracy has never worked to protect innocents from the unhumans. It is time to stop playing by rules they won’t,” the book says.

Posobiec and Lisec stress in the final chapter, however — after having excused the Jan. 6, 2021, mob attack on Congress by Trump supporters as a “lawfare trap” — that they don’t support violence.

“Illegal and harmful acts to further any political cause should be condemned totally. We do,” they write. “Thus, all commentary of ours should be interpreted in the spirit of law and order. We cannot save civilization by suspending it.”

Instead of illegal means, Posobiec and Lisec encourage their readers to make public lists of unhumans, to make fun of them, to attack them with “lawfare” and cancel culture, and to support legislation that would increase “tax transparency” and ban public teacher unions.

Posobiec achieved notoriety in 2016 by propagating the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which some have described as a precursor to QAnon and the “big lie” about the 2020 election being stolen.

Pizzagate’s proponents posited with no evidence whatsoever that top Democrats were running a child sex ring out of Comet Ping Pong, a pizza place in Washington, D.C. Posobiec fueled the fake story with a livestream from inside the restaurant in November 2016.

“We threw him out,” the restaurant’s owner recalled in 2021. “But he was also just like a loser with a livestream that anyone could have. But the incident heroized him or something.”

The next month, a 28-year-old North Carolina man brought an assault rifle to Comet Ping Pong and fired three rounds inside. Nobody was hurt and police arrested the man after he’d spent more than half an hour searching for the restaurant’s nonexistent sex dungeon. The judge who sentenced him to prison said it was “sheer luck” nobody was killed.

Posobiec was and is a fascist. His writings reflect that. He might now call himself a Christian Nationalist but he isn't Christian. The book, which I haven't read, other than a few articles summarizing it goes on basically call civil rights activists communists etc. Posobiec made up that horseshit about pizzagate. He was involved with Charlottesville. He is advocating for project 2025 type stuff and he has Vance's ear. I'm surprised there is any kind of denouncement of violence but unleashing cyber lynch mobs can lead that happening.

This is who we are dealing with and who Vance is. One of the biggest failing of our modern political system has been having these bad actors sneak into spheres of political relevance.

                              • Drinking and driving isn't cool but did he take a 10 million dollar bribe from a foreign dictator?

Keep in mind Mendez is not water for smaller scale bribes from the same country.
Good thing Barr, who downplayed Russiagate was there to cover it up. From WaPo.

Five days before Donald Trump became president in January 2017, a manager at a bank branch in Cairo received an unusual letter from an organization linked to the Egyptian intelligence service. It asked the bank to “kindly withdraw” nearly $10 million from the organization’s account — all in cash. Inside the state-run National Bank of Egypt, employees were soon busy placing bundles of $100 bills into two large bags, according to records from the bank.

Four men arrived and carried away the bags, which U.S. officials later described in sealed court filings as weighing a combined 200 pounds and containing what was then a sizable share of Egypt’s reserve of U.S. currency. Federal investigators learned of the withdrawal, which has not been previously reported, early in 2019. The discovery intensified a secret criminal investigation that had begun two years earlier with classified U.S. intelligence indicating that Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi sought to give Trump $10 million to boost his 2016 presidential campaign, a Washington Post investigation has found.
