The solution was obvious: expand forces in Afghanistan or pull out.

Americans didn’t want an expansion thus a pull out was the only option.

Could they have done better? I honestly don’t know. I’m pretty ignorant to military logistics. Afghanistan barely has working roads, would it even be possible to coordinate the evacuation of thousands of Americans plus thousands of natives?

And it took all of one night before Fox started in on the, we can’t take thousands of refugees line.

This is a shit show 20 years in the making, one that some of us argued would happen when we we’re arguing about this on cougarboard while some were screaming yes let’s blow shit up!

Agreed, very dissapointing and dismaying. They seem to have thought they had more time to affectuate withdrawal of U.S. personnel, citizens, and our Afghan friends. They clearly read all the signals very wrongly. A hard look at our intelligence services and what they knew, when they knew it, and what they told the President is in order.
