So, this is what I missed out on last summer?Originally posted by landpoke View PostJuly 20th and 21st with apologies for the poor camera phone images
Breakfast of Champions

12th tee, The Golf Club at Devil's Tower

12th Hole, The Golf Club at Devil's Tower. You can't really tell from the picture but it's 500 feet straight down on the right.

Quite possibly the purest pure golf swing you'll ever see. You'll note I'm sporting a baby blue argyle pattern sweater vest with a Boo Weekley camo ball cap. Tight.
(I hit it a bit thin and into the sand. Out and two putted for bogey.)
Dangit. From now on, I'm making sure my clubs are going with us."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Is that course open to the public? How much is it to play? I'm genuinely intrigued.Originally posted by landpoke View Post

It's private. They had a two day package with lodging at a Cowboy Joe Club auction last fall which we won and which is why we were able to get on. It's a relatively new course and I'm not sure why they went private so quickly (it was semi-private only two years ago and rumor is they only have 50 members.)Originally posted by Donuthole View PostIs that course open to the public? About the only option is the route we took or you could play in the Cowboy Joe Club golf tournament they have there in late May/early June. They'll take anyone's money and you'll have the added satisfaction of supporting student atheletes at the University of Wyoming.
It is a spectacular course, here's the website:

Maybe with your Wyoming connections you could get us on this course.Originally posted by landpoke View PostIt's private. I just received a personal invitation (the honor of which is not diluted by the fact that there were around 5,000 cc's) from Tom Holmoe inviting me to play in the Deseret Duel Cup Golf Tournament. Sixty players from each of Crimson Club and Cougar Club will square off on Wednesday, August 12 at Thanksgiving Point in a Ryder Cup style contest (two players from each club in a foursome).
As I will be busy riding Dumbo with grandkids, I'll pass. But I hope BYU71 will defend our honor in this critical contest.

Last year they had a CJC event there too. I was all set to jump on it this year and they go and switch the event to Golf & Tennis. Bastards.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostMaybe with your Wyoming connections you could get us on this course.

Played around of best ball with my old man today against two of his co-workers. We easily beat them shooting 3 over for the day. I can tell my dad has been playing lots of golf. It shows. We probably only played 10 of my shots all day."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Played Hobble Creek today and shot an 81. I was pulling everything and it really hurt my game, especially at #3. I yanked the tee shot so far left that after dropping, I couldn't go over the trees, so I had to practically chip the 3rd shot at a 90° angle to the green. I then pulled the ball into the trees again about 100 yards from the green. Drop again.
If I could have holed my approach, it would have been a bogey, but no, I put it long and left. From there I pitched it short and ended up just off the fringe. Two putts later and I'm drawing a little number 9 on the scorecard. Four over on one hole. Yuck.

Out of the few courses I have played in Utah, Hobble Creek is my favorite. Very pretty and the green fee's are very reasonable. It was hard to find though."I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a$$, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it". - Tommy Callahan III
