I play it quite a bit. Nice course it is in pretty good shape right now. The opening tee shot on hole 1 is one of the best in the state, the hole is about 370 yards, you are elevated about 500 feet on your tee shot. Its fun to hit bombs off of that. The back 9 is a lot tougher than the front 9.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostAnyone golfed Cedar Hills before? Comments?
Also holes 9 and 10 usually have some serious canyon winds from the mouth of AF canyon.*Banned*

decent course, as cj said you tee off on the first hole from pretty far up (I thought it was closer to 200 feet?) and there's a creek that crosses in front of the green. So either go for it (it's reachable if you're a long enough hitter) or lay up.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostAnyone golfed Cedar Hills before? Comments?
IMO the course plays its best when there's water running through it. Front 9 is all down in the valley area and I prefer it to the back, though the back is decent too. They've changed up the back a bit, but you have some target-golf type holes that definitely favor accuracy over length.
Let us know how you find the condition of the course, since in my view it's been all over the map the last couple seasons.

Golf tip request:
I am tall and hit the ball a long ways. I hit my irons high in the air and they are the strength of my game. I got a three iron hybrid a couple years ago and lately I have been nails with it. 240 and pretty straight usually.
I have always struggled with the driver. Slice/hook/push/pull you name it. All over the place. I've been getting more consistent, i.e. maybe 50% of the time it's in the fairway. When I do hit it right it's better than sex 300 yards. But after 15 years of golf I question how much better I'm going to get and I'm sick of all the penalty strokes.
so question is:
1. Should I continue to work on my driver, not give up on it, and try to master it.
2. Cut my losses, throw out the driver. and
a) always use my 3 iron hybrid off the tee or
b) buy a longer iron hybrid maybe even a 15 degree and see how that works.
I'm always up for an excuse to buy new equipment.

If you are good with your long irons, then take the pressure off your driver and use something shorter off the tee. Unless you are playing 7,200 yard courses, you can usually do just fine without. I hadn't played in 4 years before golfing in Utah last week and I did considerably better when I gave up trying to drive the ball (I used 3 wood or less). On a 340 yard par 4 at Cascade, I hit 4 iron and pitching wedge to within 15 feet and birdied, while the rest of my family where scrounging the trees and rough after hitting driver.Originally posted by jay santos View PostGolf tip request:

I would try a three wood before you dropped all the way to hitting your hybrid off the tee. I think one mistake a lot of people make with their driver is trying to hit a dead straight shot down the middle of the fairway. Find that swing that is going to produce that fade every time and go with that. Take hooking or hitting that big draw out of your head and just aim down the left side and watch it drift back into the center.Originally posted by jay santos View PostGolf tip request:

I golfed for the first time in 18 months last week on the 4th. Staying in Park City, the only place that we could find with 2 open tee times on short notice was Round Valley Golf Course in Morgan, about a 45 minute drive away.
Not a bad little muni course. Par 72 with plenty of water and sand. The greens were very wet but in fair shape. 2 or 3 fairways looked like someone had gone off-roading in them.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy playing. I had also forgotten how badly I play after about 13 holes. Fatigue sets in and my shot goes to pot.
Not a bad front 9 for me at 45, back 9 not so good at 48.
Like Jay, I left the driver in the bag after about the 4th hole and went 3 or 5W the rest of the way.

The 3W or 5W is useless to me. It combines the length I get off my 3 iron hybrid with the variance of my driver. I think it has to do with my swing which is a little on the steep side and it's harder for me to adjust to the longer shafted woods.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostI would try a three wood before you dropped all the way to hitting your hybrid off the tee. Interesting concept about purposefully hitting a fade and aiming left. I'll try it out.

I went golfing at an executive course with falafel and a couple others this morning before work. I bogeyed the first hole and parred the remaining 8. Unfortunately, I lipped out a 4-foot putt for birdie on the 3rd hole, or I would have shot even par. Not a bad morning, regardless. As for falafel, he didn't hit balls into the water, which was nice.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

You are demeaning the experience.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostI went golfing at an executive course with falafel and a couple others this morning before work.
Nor did I hit "ball" into the water.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostAs for falafel, he didn't hit balls into the water, which was nice.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Drunk Tank and I golfed again today...
He was on fire for the first few holes. He shot a 49 on the front and I shot a 50.
The back nine I got crazy for me. I shot a 47 he shot a 50. I beat him again.
I missed a hole in one on a par 3 by maybe 6 inches at the most.
I normally have really slow club speed, but I worked on it today and was really hitting my irons well. (I don't use the woods/metals ever)
We are going to be shooting low 90's come September.
