I have demoed the racs and loved them. Right now I hit the Nike CPRs because like you I have a friend that was a Nike Rep and got me a good deal.

I'm still going to suggest Mizunos. Unless you have the money to pony up for Miura forgings or other exotic Japanese steel, nothing out there that's accessible for the average golfer is better than Mizuno's grain-flow forging technology. Even used in their game-improvement and 'player's cavity' irons.

You could probably find a set of mp-60s on the 'bay right now for that same $350.

        • I golfed Badlands today. Great course. One of the best in Vegas, IMO, but very unforgiving. If you're not in the fairway, you've got about 3 feet of first cut and another 3 of rough before you're in the desert (and not desert you can hit out of--rocky, rough terrain). I've golfed it over a dozen times, usually from the yellows (second tees from the back), but today, one guy really wanted to golf from the championship tees (7000 yards) to "get his money's worth". Well, the extra 700 yards about did us all in (especially him). It didn't help that I couldn't control my driver on the front nine, and had to take several drops.

I pulled out a 95, which is about ten strokes over what I usually golf from next tees up. Considering I was 7 over through 4 holes (yikes!), I didn't finish all that poorly. Still, it makes you want to spend an hour at the driving range afterward, just to console yourself. Unfortunately, time (read: Mrs. Donut) didn't permit that. Better luck next time (I hope).

          • I woke my ass up at 4:30 this morning and played Palisades. Its a fun coursel but I have never seen such hard pin placements in my life, basically get a putt started and it rolled off the green, every hole on an angle, it was ridiculous. It is a fun course to use your driver because most holes are downhill and you can bomb away. I drove two greens today, one of them was 323 slightly downhill, the second one was 358 off a cliff.

Is that the course in Manti?

Yeah, I guess technically its in Sterling but just a few minutes outside of Manti.

The problem with that course is you get a lot of weekenders and families. Thats great but not when you want to get done in a timely manner. We were the first tee time out and finished in about 3 hours and 45 minutes which is good time. But when we made the turn they sent some groups out off the back, we played through the first group and skipped hole 11 (came back to it at the end). When we finished up hole 18, the two groups we played through and skipped were on hole 15.

I played that course a few years back. I remember it being pretty fun. That hole at the back where you hit across the ravine has a great view.

                  • played talons cove today for the first time in years. I think it was 2005 when I last played there. Weather was perfect this morning, tee time just after 6 AM. Great fairways, greens were good except for where people still don't like to fix their ballmarks.

                    It was all good...except....

...my golf game. I think I'm seeing the downside of not playing enough. And I've never played often, the most I've played in the past is 4-5 times per month (usually 9 holes). I'm getting way more inconsistent. One hole I'm hitting on the green right at the flag and backing the ball up 10 feet--happened twice today--the next I'm pulling a tee shot straight left and into the weeds. I had 3 3-putts and a 4-putt (!!!). I hit 3 dead center, 300+yard drives. I lost a ball hitting out of the weeds when it went literally ten feet, into more weeds, and I spent three minutes looking and couldn't find it. Starting the back 9 I focused in and went bogey, bogey, par, par, par, par. Ending the front 9 I took a quad bogey for a nice get-your-money's-worth 52.

I know, story of golf. That's how it goes.

I need someone to talk me out of just selling my golf clubs and waiting a decade to pick the game back up, when I have more money (hopefully). Or maybe when I'm retired. I think I've played enough that my expectations are higher. I long for the days when I was upset if I went over 90, and flirted with the high 70s. Playing as infrequently as I do now (today was my 4th time out) I know I can't expect to be consistent. But triple bogeys just aren't fun, especially when I'm mindful of how much it just cost me to get on the course and not wanting to regret having spent the money. I try to enjoy the course and my friends and I do, but I could also enjoy looking at the grass in my backyard while standing around the grill with some friends, too. And that's cheaper.

Since I'm hopelessly addicted, I'm sure I won't actually give up the clubs. But I'd love to get back to enjoying golf including my play, instead of ONLY enjoying scenery and the company, and getting away from everything.

**EDIT: by "flirting with the high 70s" above, I mean flirting like winking at Selma Hayek on my TV screen flirting. My lowest score for 18 is 82, for 9 is 39. I don't want to mis-represent my ability, I know it has a ceiling. But from where I sit right now, the carpet strands look like trees.

                        Jackass!

My game has really suffered. I remeber when I could beat The_Tick by 20 strokes. This was my 2nd time golfing this year, a far cry from when I was playing 2-3 times a week for free. I have added about 15-20 strokes to my game since then. Its really sad. Although, I did hit my 60* wedge better today than I have in quite a while, so I was happy and will forgo abandoning golf just yet.

                        • I played Cedar Hills this morning with some friends. One them is about a 6 handicap, the other about a 10. I would say right now I am about a 20000000000000000000000000 thanks to the shanks......................Until today!

Front nine I struggled but I was not shaking the ball, it was more missing left or right but hitting good solid shots, I fought it a little and finished with a 43 on the front.

Back 9 I got hot, I par 10 through 15. The bad news is I hit every single Green in Regulation and couldn't get a birdie putt to fall. I bogeyed 16, double bogeyed 17 (easy hole hit my approach shot about a foot short in to the water), and finally picked up a birdie on 18 for a 38. Shot an 81 overall. I am pretty happy right now.

I am going back out Thursday hopefully it wasnt just one round.

                          • I played 27 holes at Running Y down in Klamath Falls yesterday. Great course, gorgeous day. I played my best round ever of 97, then followed it with a 51. Yesterday was the best golf I have ever played, I am pumped to play the Bandon courses in a couple weeks.

                              • So I played a 4 man scramble today at Cedar Hills. Two of the guys on my team were fighting it a bit, tough pin locations and we couldnt make a putt today. Only finished at -9. Rough day all around, I have played with the same guys and finished -15 or more on several occassions.

The thing that pissed me off the most was that we had a team in front of us hacking it all over the course. They were very slow and we waited about 15 minutes per shot. It was awful. We watched them play all day and I know for a fact that got par on two of the par 5s nad at least 7 holes total. Well they turn in their score card at -14 and finish 3rd. I hate people like that, keep an honest freaking score in a tournament.
