I think I'm done for the year. I played with my pals from grade school (losers that we are, we still get together) and I shot a 79 with three birds. And it was no fluke (the birdie putts included two tap-ins) as I had only 2-3 bad shots the entire round. Those of you who have played with me know that today was a Festivus miracle and I have no hope of bettering that in 2014. I'm fine finishing the year with a 79 average. Good luck to everyone in this fall's CS Tournament!

I've been playing good winter golf too, no 79 of course but good for a commoner, and am unsure if I should be excited that it will be a sign of things to come this summer or annoyed that I'm wasting my few good rounds in December/January.

My apologies in advance to PAC--this may sound like a bit of a one-up in light of his recent achievement--but I shot a 78 today at Silverstone. 42 on the front, and a cool 36 on the back, finishing with 7 straight pars. I only lost one ball (first hole, scrambled to save bogey) and overall notched one bird, 7 bogeys, and 10 pars.

I had 32 putts total, no 3 putts, and missed another 4 birdie putts inside of 15 feet. The last two holes were practically played in the dark, so I was happy to escape with pars, even though I couldn't read the greens at all.

Golf sure is a lot of fun when all facets of your game are working. I'm sure I'll go out and drop a 90 next time, but for now I'm feeling pretty great.

Nice... a 36 will keep you warm until you tee it up again. I haven't even swung a club in my garage since October. AV killed my desire for golf when he let me hit his Taylormade and now nothing else will do.

Taking the boys on a St George weekend golf trip. Any suggestions on where to play this year?

Criteria:
1. not too crowded, we play slow, plus we don't have any tee times already scheduled obviously
2. chill attitude towards youngsters. my boys are generally well behaved, but i can't guarantee something won't happen like the seven year old takes the car drives over the green and into a pond.
3. easy course
4. cost

Last year we had a lot of fun. We played Dixie Red Hills and St George Golf Club. Both those were fine, but I don't really like the links style courses that are short and tight like St George Golf Club.

Any suggestions?

Winter golf can be pricey in St. George. I haven't looked up rates in a while, but you might look into buying a Dixie Direct Card for $35. It will probably more than pay for itself over the weekend.

Another good place to look is www.ezlinks.com and ksl.com

EZlinks has Valderra (formerly the Ledges) for $47 for 18 and a cart, they also have St. George golf club for $26 and Dixie Red Hills for $19. I know Santos said he already played them and wasn't a fan (who is?) but for $26 it is worth it.

KSL has Coral Canyon and Falcon Ridge for $45 each, not sure of the restrictions.

That would not be any easy course to walk. How different do they keep the course as opposed to when the open is there? They had the fairways so fast players couldn't keep their drives on the fairway on #4. #9 looked brutal, does it play that way.

Looks like you're off to a good 2014. Maybe get that index down to 7-8?

We've got 8" of snow on the ground. Clubs are in the garage with the grips hardening day by day. Since last Sunday I've only left the house for 3 hours total. I need to get out, but where to go?
