My daughter and I ran a 5k today at Thanksgiving Point. Man, that race is crowded. It is tough to maintain any pace because you are dodging other runners. I guess that probably happens in a lot of race.
I’ve been sick off and on the last couple of weeks. My sinuses have been terrible and I’ve been pretty lethargic. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to run today.
I took it pretty easy as I didn’t want to pass out not feeling well. I ran with my daughter the whole way. She hasn’t been training much so it worked out. I had been running about 2-4 mile twice a week until the last couple of weeks.
Our pace improved the entire race. Our average was about a 10.40 mile. I’m happy with it. I felt pretty good and strong the whole time. Mostly just happy I was well enough to run.

Nice job!"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

My plan for this summer is to run a 50 miler.
One of my best friends is turning 50 next year, so his goal is to do a. 50 mile run of some sort. My thought is to do it with him because I am crazy. My longest run ever is a marathon.
To make this harder, he wants to do this as a trail run. To make it more insane, the route we have selected is along the pacific crest trail from a road crossing down to Hetch Hetchy in Yosemite. 50 miles or trail, no support. No road crossings. We don’t get closer to roads along the way. Essentially the closest road will be the one we depart from until we reach 1/2 way and then the closest will be the end.
The goal is to do it all in one day. Will do it the full moon in late July. Most likely start at 4 in the morning and go all day and try and finish before it gets too dark.
I did a 10 mile trail run with 1300 ft of gain on Saturday and it kicked my butt. Took 1:50

Sounds fun. I’m looking forward to the report. Let me know if you need a SAG."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. I promise to do a .50 mile run of some sort when I turn 50. This is right in my wheelhouse.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostMy plan for this summer is to run a 50 miler.

Well, I am already past 50 so I will do a .054k run for my 54th in a couple weeks. On second thought, that doesn't seem like enough time to train. I will do a .0054k run.“Every player dreams of being a Yankee, and if they don’t it’s because they never got the chance.” Aroldis Chapman

I ran 7 miles yesterday and 10 today. 50 may kill me.
I did have a great conversation yesterday with the guy that ran the john muir trail in 4+ days. Got some good pointers. Best one was to not fall through the ice and fully submerge yourself in a lake at 5 in the morning. Makes for rough day. He said his longest day was close to 70 but on that day he only got just over 30 since he spent so much energy shivering. Suggestion noted.

Accidentally did 13 miles today. Meant to do 11 or 12 but the trail/dirt road I was on ended up being just a bit longer. I am slow (took just over 2 hours) but getting more used to this. Funny thing is my last mile was my fastest (7:51) as I went back down the hill from the campground to my house.
