Setting the over-under at 5 years for when male single senior missionaries are no longer allowed.
Why?

Still waiting on ordinance workers being allowed facial hair.
I would think this change with missions is going to mean single men over 30 can be ordinance workers now? That was a weird rule. What made it even weirder was that a divorced man over 30 could but not a never married one.
I experienced this one first hand. When I was still single I was an ordinance worker for about a year and a half until I turned 30. When that happened the temple president had me go to his office where he very kindly thanked me for my service but because of the rule he needed to release me. He even said he didn't personally understand why the rule existed. He then invited me to continue to come every Saturday at the same time where I could still do some of the same things serving as a "volunteer." So I did that for about another year. I could man the recommend desk and stll do several other things. Couldn't officiate though or do anything ordinance related other than what a regular patron can do.
Maybe they already changed the rule, I never heard. I've been married for 16 years now, so it was a long time ago.

Huh you're about 46. Don't know why I thought you were younger, like in your 30s.

Never married men over 30 are historically the lowest on the social totem pole in the church culture. It's not fun being automatically assumed or at least suspected to be probably bad in some way. Hopefully this has been changing. In my personal case my parents went through such a nasty horrible divorce when I was a young teenager that I probably needed some extra time to be ready for it.
I picture everyone most everyone here in their 30s, but then I also picture myself in my 30s.
Why thank you Clark!

I think the miniscule percentage of men who will abuse their mission for unsavory and/or illegal purposes will ultimately kill it.

Like what? Joy riding in the mission cars?
Sure, you could have the odd 41 yr old rich single missionary sweeping a 19 yr old sister off her feet. But as long as they get married, no harm no foul!
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
