Damn spellchecker.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Donald Sterling would agree with you.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostWhy on earth do they need to "discipline" her? The idea that the Church has to "protect itself" is totally nutty. This disciplinary action clearly harms the Church. Furthermore, she's expressing her opinion. What the hell is wrong with expressing an opinion in America? This isn't Iran for hell's sake.
My rationale is very simple: a member in good standing doesn't stage protests during worship services, and doesn't actively proselyte doctrines that the church has stated to be inconsistent with its teachings. It's like we are all part of a law firm that has a policy that only men can be partners. One of the female associates is saying that policy is wrong and so she is being summarily fired. It defies all common sense and logic obviously for women not to have the priesthood, but all the more to punish a woman for simply pointing out the obvious discrimination and injustice and asking for a change.
I don't expect you to answer but just wanted to throw that out there and would love to hear you sum up your rationale for the church imposing "discipline" in a sentence or two.
I'm actually very sympathetic to the idea that women should have more meaningful roles in Mormon society. But OW's tactics are totally inappropriate.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

You can use the word all you like. You and I both know it's the wrong word.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostI don't see how the church can credibly claim that they are not misogynistic after this, even if the excommunication doesn't happen (don't bother, AA - I'm using the word whether you like it or not) and expect anybody to believe them other than those who are inside. Same thing as 1978 - the church still is suffering from a racist perception. See, e.g., the Book of Mormon musical. That doesn't wash off, and in 20 years when women get ordained (yes, I'm calling it) it will be yet another embarrassing thing to deal with in history. There are enough embarrassing things in church history to fill books; why make more?
I'm speaking of the church as an entity unto itself as being misogynistic/racist - I'm not talking about any specific individuals.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Bullshit. It's a matter of opinion. And in my opinion the entire organization is misogynist. Thanks for trying the mindreading thing though.Originally posted by All-American View PostYou can use the word all you like. You and I both know it's the wrong word.Awesomeness now has a name. Your mental gymnastics are just getting laughable at this point.Originally posted by All-American View PostDonald Sterling would agree with you.

The huge difference between Donald Sterling and Kate Kelly is that Kate Kelly's membership is unquestionably a good thing in the eyes of the world. An educated female human rights attorney claiming a religion with a really dubious history wrt to civil rights and sexism? (I can't believe I even have to point this out.)
What Ordain Women did at GC was hardly a "protest".
What would be an appropriate tactic for OW? I'm still waiting for a reasonable answer to this question. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I haven't looked it up yet. Maybe I'm idealizing lawyers too much but I was thinking being a lawyer had something to do with upholding fairness and justice and this is the opposite of that, a PR nightmare, etc.Originally posted by Moliere View Post
Wow!
Btw, everyone should know their employment situation since she publicly posted it...and it looks like her reasons for posting it are working.
Yeah losing a job is tough -- probably not as tough as what Kate is going through.Originally posted by Soccermom View PostI'm sorry, but to wish job loss on anyone is just terrible. You may not agree with them but I don't think they are getting any joy out of this. And even if they are, to wish the loss of a job and livelihood on these men seems heartless.Last edited by CardiacCoug; 06-21-2014, 03:22 PM.

If you're arguing that this is a free speech issue, then the content of the speech shouldn't matter.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostYour mental gymnastics are just getting laughable at this point.

Examples of appropriate actions for Kate Kelly to have pursued, since they all fit the description of "not stage demonstration":Originally posted by All-American View PostI did. My last answer still stands.
Bomb the COB.
Start baptizing and performing priesthood blessings.
Poisoning all members of the 12 who don't hail from Germany.
etc.
I think I'd prefer her method. Sorry! At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
