Doug Fabrizio is CS's very own MarkGrace?!

We need to get Fabrizio here immediately!

Is his son the kid at Brighton (?) that is getting recruited by local schools for football?

Kind of funny how he mangles the 1978 SWK story.

Good call. Now I just have to come up with the $9.99:

Funny isn't the word I would use considering he feels like he's the historian. "As has been the Lord's pattern, whether with blacks or polygamy, He waited until the furor died."

            Now that part's funny.

Or how he [God] waited until the furor died with polygamy before issuing a revelation manifesto. It would appear this guy sees a "pattern" of revelation in the last two declarations in the D&C while ignoring patterns of revelation in the first 138 sections. And he gets the "pattern" wrong in relation to the official declarations that deal with polygamy and blacks and the priesthood. In other words, the "furor" had not died.

Yes, it is going to far from their perspective. They are trying to change the operational structure, not trying to burn it down. I'm talking about how decisions are made and the church is governed, not the specific issues themselves. The structure is everything to the identity of the church though. So from the other side, they are trying to burn it down.

As far as the tactics, It does not bother me. I think it is moving to an inevitable and predictable conclusion from the church standpoint. If they don't want to get exed they probably could still chose to avoid it, but it is clear they don't want to be in the church the way it is today.

Nobody should be surprised though. You can hate the idea if you want, but public political campaigns for change in the church are going to lead to excommunication. Church membership isn't mandatory and it isn't a no strings attached proposition.

                      • The structure which will forever change is everything? You make no sense Vic.

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

I don't think isom came across quite as poorly as some, although she was obviously rattled a few times during the interview, and threw out a few pretty absurd statements that are going to be latched onto by the exmo crowd ("the imperative is the problem", "I'd have to check his schedule", etc). I particularly loved her example, when pressed by Doug to give a proper way to express doubt, of the blogger who prayerfully bore testimony of the Gospel on his blog. She didn't do the church any favors and I wonder if they'll go back to their prior policy of denying interviews.
I'm almost done with the interview (I listen to it while driving just in case DDD wonders....sometimes music bores me so I turn to NPR/news....sometimes it doesn't) and I agree with ER. She did okay, but she was obviously in a really tough situation. Doug did a fabulous job as he asked very pertinent questions without seeming to attack. From the interview I learned the following:

                          - Women not holding the Priesthood is doctrine even though there is no canonical support for this position
                          - Church HQ takes a very interesting line with regards to whether or not HQ gets involved in discipline. They can almost pointedly say something is apostate with pretty much the intention that local leaders will investigate, but they obviously won't get involved after that. In some ways this seems like a self fulfilling prophecy and other ways it can't. I interpret it as a way for church HQ to be involved but claim they are not involved.
                          - Members are free to discuss false doctrine in Sunday School or RS/PH meetings, but not on Facebook or public blogs
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
