I think that the kids attend Cedar Valley, so they are from Eagle Mtn, not Cedar City. But, yikes.

              Eagle Mtn? Probably home-schooled.

I'm unsure how this makes a difference. Unless Iron Mountain Public School District has a mandatory "Why Blackface is a Really Fetching Bad Idea" course, it's culture, not educational systems, that are at play here.

Sorry. That was just a lame attempt at a joke.

The current situation makes it pretty much damn near impossible. It will eventually reach a breaking point. It always does.

Suppressing his sexuality had taken a toll on him, and at his lowest, he says he contemplated suicide because of the church's doctrine: "I thought it would be a better choice to just end my life."

Having known someone who was straight-arrow LDS into his mid 20's and who eventually killed himself because he couldn't reconcile his sexual orientation, stories like this break my heart.

I just can't comprehend how anyone, regardless of how sheltered they are, wouldn't know how off limits blackface is. Is it possible we have reached a point where no one talks about blackface because it's rare?

I was 7 when I watched this and it was so seared into my brain that it's what I think about when blackface is mentioned.

I saw this play out for almost 2 decades with a family member until he stopped believing what the church told him. I suppose his eternal salvation is now in doubt, but there is no question his mental health is better outside of the church.
