How did I not know Butler was raised Mormon? Mormonism's influence on the music of the 2000s is kind of striking.Originally posted by RC Vikings View Posthttps://pitchfork.com/news/arcade-fi...tman-responds/
It's kind of a stretch to include Win Butler in this group but this will hurt his band Arcade Fire.

Butler, Brandon Flowers, Dan Reynolds, three big bands with an LDS raised lead.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Utah Saints interviewed about their self-titled debut album - Chaos Control DigizineThe group says that there was nothing too deep in the choosing of their name. The idea of using the word “Utah” came to the group when watching the film “Raising Arizona.” They heard it in the last line and thought that the word was a “quite a satisfying word and it’s underused.”
In looking for a name, Garbutt and Willis were looking for something that was not used before and didn’t come along with any preconceived notions of what a band with the name would be like. They also wanted something that would look good on a T-shirt and stage backdrop, and “Utah Saints” fit the bill on all accounts.

I wonder what the list would look like if it included all band members. I know Panic at the Disco/IDKHow (same guy I think). I remember hearing once that the original bassist for Jimmy Eat World was Mormon and that he decided to serve a mission right before they hit big. I'm guessing that was a rough couple years.

I'll bet the mission gave him the perspective to understand that everything everything would be just fine.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI wonder what the list would look like if it included all band members. I found a link. His name is Mitch Porter. Honestly, it seems like his mom might've posted this anwer.
Mitch is currently living a happy life with his wife and two kids in the same neighborhood he grew up in Mesa, Arizona. His success in life differs only in publicity, he's owned and operated a number of successful small businesses since he returned home from his mission and he's since been a faithful husband and friend. His choice to leave the band was to fulfill a religious obligation and he has never expressed regret for doing so.

The Mormon connection of JEW doesn’t end there. I know the drummer who used to play with them before they got big."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
