Perhaps this whole issue isn't doctrinal, as much as policy. Perhaps we don't really know the origin of the practice nor why it continued for so long.

I think the whole idea that God must intervene in order for people to treat those of a different race or gender equally is absolutely ludicrous. It's bad enough to think God intervenes at all, but to believe that racism and sexism require a revelation in order to be eliminated??

What you're essentially saying is that we MUST have a sexist Church until God tells a prophet to stop discriminating against women.

And you are more than welcome to that opinion. I would like to have a vote on the word of wisdom and single people having sex. While we are at it a vote on keeping the Sabbath Day Holy might be nice, at least as far as BYU being able to play on Sunday.

An alternative to real voting would be to have a supreme leader who makes all the decisions, and then the church members could just fake vote. This is the way Iran and North Korea handle business.

The church should just tell women that want the priesthood that they will be held to a loose fitting white Costco shirt and tie standard on Sundays if they get it. That will probably be enough deterrent, and will also be firmly founded in the doctrine of the church. Not even God himself can change it.

EDIT: As Assistant to the Mission Prez on our mission, he was essentially the supreme leader of the mission. He was a benevolent supreme leader and was pretty chill and laid back. Great combination of supreme leadership attributes.

I don't see where the repsonse states that in the future revelation can not be given allowing the women to have the Priesthood. Surely you don't think they should declare a revelation before God actually gives one?

I think God would be displeased if the brethern sat there and said, well Lebowski and other forward thinkers in the church think women should have the Priesthood. Let's announce we have had a revelation.

I have no idea why you are always so obtuse. Perhaps God will reveal it to me at some point in the future.

It seemed to me JL was looking for some help in discovering why I am obtuse. I just made a suggestion. I assure you I never even thought of asking him later if he took my advice. Again, a character flaw is I really couldn't care less if he did or didn't take my advice.

That same flaw is probably why I have no favor with the get the Priesthood for women group on here. I don't give a shit whether they get it or not. If the women I knew cared about it, then maybe I would too. So I do understand why some do really care.

Agree, my interest was actually aroused (only thing that arouses these days) and I went to the web site.

Can anyone explain what they mean in the beginning of their mission statement, "The fundamental tenets of Mormonism support gender equality. God is male and female, father and mother...............".
