What was the response? For example, did anyone wake up and stir a bit in their chair?

Not really as I spent the majority of the lesson talking about the history of women giving healing blessings and that the use of consecrated oil is just ritual and has no affect (outside of plecebo) on the outcome of the blessing.

Given where he came from, he couldn't help himself, but I agree he was a harmful voice within Mormonism. I am trying to be compassionate toward somebody whom I believed lacked compassion for others.

I was watching a Louis Theroux documentary last night on the Westboro Baptist Church and while I would never compare him to Phelps, BRM and BKP were the only 2 LDS reps that even came to mind.

How could a person read about Christ, as Christians have told his story, and come to the conclusion that compassion should not be extended to all?

BRM was the first apostle I heard who didn't act in the kind, gentlemanly manner that I witnessed other apostles act. Even though ETB was looney on politics at times and Mark Peterson was BY incarnate, they generally didn't go attacking BYU professors. Truth be told, at the time, I was unaware of MP's racism. Only later did I read of his racism, but I digress.

ETP and MP had talks where they sounded compassionate. Except for his last talk, BRM sounded like a robot, one who was happy strike down all who did not believe as he.

One person gives the blessing by the power of the Priesthood. What are the others doing in the circle? If they are there for support, then why couldn't someone without the Priesthood stand in giving support. I love my Uncles and my hometeachers, but my mother's support would mean more to me.
Not exactly the same thing, but when I was a priest my niece was baptized and wanted me to stand in the circle when she was confirmed. The Bishop said OK, and simply instructed my uncle to confirm her by the authority of the priesthood without specifying that it was the Melchizedek priesthood.

Which again brings up technicalities in my mind. Is the confirmation being done by the person or by the group of people who are in the circle.

If it is by the group, will the blessing have more power if you have more in the circle? Will the blessing, confirmation, ordination, etc. have more power if you have the most spiritual people you know in the circle?

If not above and the rest in the circle is more of a community gesture and support, I again ask why not those closest to me even if it includes a woman or inactive member.

I didn't know Bishop's had as much descretion in allowing who is able to be in a circle until I read this thread.

That a sisters meeting has all men speakers. (I'm just repeating the criticism - Dwight and I apparently have the same Internet friends).

oh. ok i guess that makes sense. it is true that the meeting has all men (meaning no women) or just that the meeting features those three? most of the female speakers are terrible so it is probably for the best anyway

Maybe so, but those men slated to talk are pretty dry speakers also...

MR. B is good and The Bed can be a little dry at time, I suppose. Never heard of the third guy.
