That's an incredible story, PAC. I'm sure cardiac doesn't believe a word of it.

Did he bare his testimony with an accent?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostIf that is the new standard, Our sac meeting was a whorehouse of abominations today. Especially egregious was a recently returned missionary reporting on his mission to Australia. That guy is going straight to outer darkness."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Thanks PAC. I can't believe these guys don't see the clear difference between this awesome but completely believable story and the other one.

I learned there are few things as awkward as the bishop reading the same-sex marriage letter to the youth, and then saying he didn't expect anyone in that room to have a problem with same-sex attraction. Instead, he anticipated they would be attracted the the opposite sex rather strongly. In a sexual way. But that's okay, because that's what the Lord intended.

Awesome story. I still believe America is where people who are in dire straights have the best opportunity to become successful as the people in this story.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostWe had an outstanding talk in Sac. Meeting today. A young Asian woman, new to the ward, began by saying she was a recent convert and this was her first talk. She said her NM mother had taught her that if you are called upon to speak, and you bore people, you have sinned, and she hoped she wouldn't sin. She didn't.
She said she was born in Saigon a few months before its fall in 1975. Her family had been involved with the South Vietnam government was was severely punished by the conquering North. Several escape attempts failed, but her father and two other guys built a forty-foot boat out of wood they removed from the second floor of their house. One night, they rowed away with three dozen people or so in the boat--her family included three small children and her mother was six months pregnant. After a few days at sea, they came within a mile or so of Malaysia but ships from the Malaysian navy ordered them to turn around and return to Vietnam. The woman's father then told all of the men to start punching holes in the floor of the boat--hoping that as their makeshift boat sank the navy would have mercy but being willing to face death rather than return to Vietnam.
They were picked up and put in a refugee camp and after a couple of years, a U.S. family sponsored her family's trip the the U.S. She provided details of her family's experiences in the U.S. and how they went from having absolutely nothing to considerable success. Her parents became owners of multiple restaurants in the Bay Area and she's now a dentist. Her husband is a doctor but wasn't there today as he's on call at the hospital. In contrast to my usual semi-comatose state, I was sitting up, leaning forward, and hanging on every word. I was also thinking these people must be among the few immigrants who Donald Trump assumes are good people.
She closed with a great testimony. By her standard, most of us sin when we give talks. She knocked it out of the park.
On a side thought since you mentioned Donald, America is also a place where very self serving egotistical blow hards can become very successful. Maybe it is because Donald lives the WOW (being successful not a nut job).

Today during sac we had the usual releases and callings. The counselor invited everyone to manifest by "the uplift of hand." Im more accustomed to being invited to manifest by "the uplifted hand," even though I politely decline for political and ethical reasons.
which version is common in your neck of the woods? I'm not sure I've ever heard today's version, at least not enunciated so distinctly.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

I had a friend in Pleasant Grove when I was living in the UC that would always fumble a bit on sustainings when he conducted. He always ended up asking people to "raise your upper right arm."

I would go with, "If you have any problems with Bro. or Sis. so-and-so then come and see me after the meetings." I like it because it saves on raising the uplifted hand (i.e. waking folks up) and explains the proper procedure to file a protest."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Even in my most attentive days I wouldn't have been able to differentiate between 'uplifted hand' and 'uplift of hand'. Just how bored are you at church today, DDD?"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
