No mention in my ward. There was a vague hint in that direction during ward council, with one guy mentioning the gradual decline in moral values in our country. But he says that every week, so this one was really no different than normal.

In ward council the Bishop asked the RS, EQ, and HPG to all mention the newsroom release and church article/response as a place people could go for the official church position and reasoning - and that they could invite people to speak with him directly if they had any concerns.

But that was all I heard.

We have Ward Council or PEC every week. And in our ward, PEC is just Ward Council without the women. Same topics, same focus. PEC takes maybe 15 minutes less.

And yeah, it sucks.

I've never understood the need for PEC meeting instead of ward council. Maybe someone can enlighten me on the value, aside from maybe being slightly shorter length.

PEC is where you can still talk sh** about the RS and laugh at a lot of their nonsense.

No mention is my ward but a group of neighbors gather together on Sunday evenings out on one of the neighbors lawn. I got my nine holes in early and joined in yesterday. I learned that my next door neighbors second oldest son had told them he was gay and how every family was going to be affected by this eventually. It sounded like a disease that was spreading. It will be interesting to see how the church deals with this down the road. We have four guys in our HP group that I know have gay children.

We currently have PEC twice a month and Ward Council twice a month.

One of our previous bishops used to do the same - but invited the RS president to PEC. Apparently in the handbook it says (or used to say) something about inviting the RS to PEC when appropriate to discuss welfare matters. He just decided it was ALWAYS appropriate.

I like the idea of weekly Ward Council and no PEC. Seems like a part of every PEC meeting is deciding who is going to tell the Sunday School, Primary, YW, and RS what was talked about - or a reminder to put something on the next Ward Council agenda because a final decision shouldn't be made without everyone's input.

do you guys invite the fake callings to ward council? i always felt kind of bad for the emergency prep dude or the employment specialist that would show up from time to time to give "updates" that nobody cared about and made the meeting longer.

We hold WC twice a month but only invite the fake callings to attend once a month.

We had SC and we heard all about it. The message was just because it's legal doesn't make it right. They compared it to illegal drugs, abortion and alcohol. We were also told that sacrament meetings would be given back to Jesus Christ. There will be announcement five minutes before the start of the meeting asking for reverence and we are expected to be quiet.
It's church not a social club we were told. All phones go on airplane mode when you enter church. The bishopric was instructed to stop thanking the Priesthood for reverence after they pass sacrament. All who pass sacrament must wear white shirts, ties, and dress shoes. No more"floppy shoes". Bishops were instructed to "take care of it if family can't afford the clothes". If anyone would like to hear more I can go on.
