It's church not a social club we were told. All phones go on airplane mode when you enter church. The bishopric was instructed to stop thanking the Priesthood for reverence after they pass sacrament. All who pass sacrament must wear white shirts, ties, and dress shoes. No more"floppy shoes". Bishops were instructed to "take care of it if family can't afford the clothes". If anyone would like to hear more I can go on.
Sounds like my experience a couple of months ago. Someone fairly high up is trying to lock everything down.

That's a nice admission that Jesus Christ hasn't had the sacrament meeting for sometime. Oops.

This list kind of reminds me of yesterday in Sunday School when I read out of Leviticus for five minutes just to bore the hell out of the kids, trying to prove a point.

a few weeks ago we were asked to start showing up early and sitting quietly. I wonder if that will have any real effect over time. seems like minutiae. if that is a pressing concern in the ward you have a pretty good ward.

I was sitting there on Sunday asking myself, "I wonder what would be a good strategy for helping my young children be more reverent through Sacrament meeting?" It came to me shortly afterward, "Spend more time there. That'll do it."

Please do, as DDD knows well, I'm always interested in what's really happening in the church

Assuming the Bishop is up to date on his handbook, he should know white shirts and ties "should not be required as a mandatory prerequisite for a priesthood holder to participate" in the sacrament. He should also know that 5 minutes before the meeting begins, he should be in his seat. This is not a time for "transmitting messages," which would presumably include announcements and directives to the congregation. Which means that the person giving the SC message was totally out of line.

Sounds like a real peach of a SC.

                  • Hey, my RS still has its Good News Minute, although that's been outlawed for at least 3 years.

                      • I've been in a couple of wards where they try to crack down on noise before and during Sacrament Meeting.

Of all the things to worry about I think members of the Ward talking to each other before Sacrament Meeting has gotta be about the dumbest thing out there.

And if the Church really wants things to be quiet during Sacrament Meeting good hell why not have a nursery during the meeting like most churches? Of all the things we should be teaching kids I don't rank "sitting still and wasting time being bored out of their minds" very high on the list.

                        • We are to listen to the music to get us in the spirit after the announcement at five till. No more announcements at the beginning of sacrament. At the beginning of third hour when asking for reports all who give them should be sitting in front row ready to give reports. No more travel logs etc. during F&T meetings, just testimonies and we need to coach them if they need help. Bishopric must be seated by seven of at the latest. There is no meeting more important then second hour. Everyone is to be in Sunday school supporting the class...especially the bishopric. We are to clear the hallways in between classes for all three hours. There is probably more this was shared at Priesthood meeting then some at the late session. Also hammered the point of studying scripture on Sunday's after church at home. No fishing, swimming or other activities that break the sabbath. We have gotten lax we were told. No such thing as opening or closing prayer,it's benediction and something else. Formality is your friend. Learn how to pray, thee, thou, etc.
No more counting money during third hour. Any meeting can wait till after the three hour block. The youth leaders need to learn to have agendas. I didn't make it Sunday so I have no idea what was said.

Most wards invite the RS to PEC.
