Missionary #20 from our ward is entering the MTC this week. If the current trends continue with YW, I think 30 is a possibility. There are about 20 laurels right now."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Have you done CrossFit? I really like it. If it wasn't $150 a month to work out in a garage, I would totally do it. As it is now, I like not having to pay any gym fees.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostI don't know about that, but those Crossfit people are annoying (and this coming from me!). I take great pleasure in destroying the Crossfit teams in the road races I run.What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I'm not yet at church, so I guess I just learned this on Sunday. On Father's Day I always want to skip church and watch golf, however I'm always told it is about HF not just earthly fathers. So, with that in mind I really wish that the church was more open about Heavenly Mother so I could return the sentiment.Get confident, stupid

Lol, no. I was mostly trolling for Shaka and Saint. (Also, my gym fees for the whole family are less than that,and our gym is ridiculously nice).Originally posted by marsupial View PostHave you done CrossFit? I really like it. Crossfit is a great fitness routine and the community aspect is fun but there are a lot of crossfitters who buy into it too much. Crossfit will put you in great shape and make you look good but it won't make you a better runner than people who train to be runners, it won't make you a better football player than those who train to be football players etc. I think some of the more cultish crossfitters believe that though.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostI'm mostly joking - I think some of the philosophies are decent enough, although it's not for me - but I always laugh when I see a group of them in matching uniforms at road races.
Last time I saw it a group of four was running a marathon relay and talking it up about being the "A" team from Crossfit. I beat the entire team solo with ease in one of the more lackadaisical races I've run in a while.

Heavenly Mother made a good and direct showing in sacrament meeting (not literally, but in a talk
)
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I think you'd really like the workouts. They are pretty challenging. I steal what I can from CrossFit and incorporate it into my PT sessions and boot camps, as well as my own personal workouts (most of the "boxes" post their workouts of the day online). I believe the price is so high because it is such a niche market. Anyone and everyone will sign up for a gym. Not so with CrossFit.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostLol, no. In her farewell address today our departing missionary mentioned the story of how the resurrected Christ appeared to the apostles who were fishing without success, and told them to throw their nets on the other side of their boats, resulting in a huge catch. I've always thought that was a weird story since the Galilean boats were fairly small and putting a net on one side or the other really shouldn't have made a material difference. Move your boat a mile or two, okay; move the net ten feet? Come on. As I was thinking about that, I imagined me along with others in that boat where, upon receiving the Savior's counsel, we would engage in a lengthy discussion about how that counsel made little sense. I suspect I'd probably say "thanks for the tip," and keep doing what I was doing.
No, this isn't a set-up for an argument that we should never question counsel or leaders. I think that the questioning process and constructive criticism within the Church (and often even here on CS) is important, vital really ("Prove everything, but hold fast that which is good..."). But it occurred to me that sometimes, even with doubts or disagreements, I benefit from simply throwing my net on the other side of the boat.
