I learned that I really like Mother's Day because all my meetings got cancelled. I'd prefer to spend time cooking/cleaning for MJ than listening to people endlessly discuss home teaching."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Brady Poppinga disagrees. I have another ex-BYU player in my class who does Crossfit exclusively. He's very large, cut, and wrong like bull.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View PostCrossfit is a great fitness routine and the community aspect is fun but there are a lot of crossfitters who buy into it too much. Crossfit will put you in great shape and make you look good but it won't make you a better runner than people who train to be runners, it won't make you a better football player than those who train to be football players etc. I think some of the more cultish crossfitters believe that though.

I learned that I enjoy teaching a lot more than being in the Sunday School presidency (2nd counselor!). Covered for the women for Mother's Day, so I taught my 5-year-old son's class. Great experience. I felt more engaged last Sunday than I have for several months.

Fish swim in schools. Christ must have been wearing polarizing lenses.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostIn her farewell address today our departing missionary mentioned the story of how the resurrected Christ appeared to the apostles who were fishing without success, and told them to throw their nets on the other side of their boats, resulting in a huge catch. I've always thought that was a weird story since the Galilean boats were fairly small and putting a net on one side or the other really shouldn't have made a material difference. Move your boat a mile or two, okay; move the net ten feet? Come on. As I was thinking about that, I imagined me along with others in that boat where, upon receiving the Savior's counsel, we would engage in a lengthy discussion about how that counsel made little sense. I suspect I'd probably say "thanks for the tip," and keep doing what I was doing.
No, this isn't a set-up for an argument that we should never question counsel or leaders. I think that the questioning process and constructive criticism within the Church (and often even here on CS) is important, vital really ("Prove everything, but hold fast that which is good..."). But it occurred to me that sometimes, even with doubts or disagreements, I benefit from simply throwing my net on the other side of the boat.

From the Bishop: "It is the foremost duty of every young woman to help the young men honor their priesthood and to never do anything that would make him unable to exercise his authority in the priesthood."
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

Dear President Packer,Originally posted by pellegrino View Posthe must have polarized eyes.
I'm trying to be a good example on my internet mission, but when the fellows make fun of Jesus, it gets really disheartening. How have you managed to walk that fine line of encouraging people, and not offending them?

who was making fun? It's much more plausible that Jesus would have some super vision that allowed him to see the fish than thinking he was wearing polarized glasses. Can you imagine Jesus in Ray Bans?Originally posted by clackamascoug View PostDear President Packer,

I learned that if your ward baptizes the director of the Donnie and Marie Show, there's about a 100% chance that both name sakes will attend both the Saturday and Sunday events. In fact, a Little Bit Rock and Roll himself may even take the lead roll in the whole laying on of hands gig. It was truely a historic Sunday. I can't wait to journal about it in 20 years. (But that's a topic for another thread!)I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

I learned that when you're singing with your daughter in sacrament meeting and you learn about it 20 minutes before the meeting starts, then practice a "How Great Thou Art" on the guitar for 30 minutes until the sacrament is over, a good icebreaker is standing at the podium with your guitar to introduce the song and saying "We may have remembered we were singing a little later than we should have, and my wife recommended we sing something we know. We'll be singing 'Good Hearted Woman'...."
EDIT: I originally posted this in the wrong thread.sigpic

Seems to me that LDS girls, at least the ones I knew, were already following that advice 20+ years ago. Maybe just my bad luck.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostFrom the Bishop: "It is the foremost duty of every young woman to help the young men honor their priesthood and to never do anything that would make him unable to exercise his authority in the priesthood."
