  • I learned that one of the only things worse than mind-numbingly repetitive gospel instruction is the defense of mind-numbingly repetitive gospel instruction as an eternal gospel principle in itself.

Of course, I have learned this lesson on many previous occasions in church. I guess I will have to keep relearning this lesson until I have truly mastered it.

      Yeah well try teaching it.

Take comfort from the fact that if you keep getting asked to teach it, the Lord must know that you still really need to learn it yourself, since it is apparently an eternal gospel principle that whoever teaches the lesson is the one who needs it the most.

        • I learned that GBH switched locations for the VAncouver temple at the last minute. He wanted it on a plot of land that seemed very difficult to procure, hwoever the church was able to get the land and permits in a very short time. It was truly inspiriational to all that participated in the land search.

It's an interesting contrast with what GBH did in Paris, which was to also select a plot of land. Over ten years later and several other locations the church finally got a place for the temple. I guess God likes Canadians better than the French
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

              • I was not in church today but I learned that we have a new bishopric filled with my friends, all of whom are open minded among other things. Much happiness.

I will in another hour or so. Strangely, I've not selected those paragraphs for inclusion in the lesson.

                          • Bro Olsen could go out on the streets and find 40 Hobos who would make better priesthood holders than those of us in the congregation. No argument here.

Nikuman, you're in the sweet spot. I've generally had good bishops but they've never been close friends. My dream is to be so tight with the bishop that when it comes time for that recommend renewal, he just winks and says, "Harry, no need for questions. Just do your best to avoid committing the unpardonable sin and we're all good."
