But since the sacrament was passed that makes it Christ centered."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Speaker taught us that JRR Tolkien leaned heavily on the PoGP, one of the reasons that speaker has always loved Tolkien and even read him to prepare for his mission.
Also LDS are better singers than the rest of the world "it is unknown why the phenomenon is, but I've spoken with many prestigious musicians and this is a universally held belief."Get confident, stupid

Sac mtg was completely dedicated to Christ including all talks, hymns, musical numbers. Sunday School was mostly dedicated to same topic."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Two speakers, one primary kids musical number. First speaker told the story of the big kid Tom and his stolen lunch. That story gets to me every time. Other speaker talked about his father who committed suicide while struggling with depression, and his testimony of the Atonement and Resurrection. One of the best sacrament meetings I've enjoyed in a while."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Both Elders' quorum and Sacrament meeting were solely focused on Christ and the atonement in our ward.
I did not attend SS because I was with a sick child while my wife taught her SS class. I assume the BoM was the topic.
Our sacrament meeting was a special choir program just like you'd see at Christmas. Music and spoken narrative. All about Christ and the atonement. Concluded with two ward members giving their testimonies regarding Jesus Christ and the atonement.
It was actually exactly what you would hope and expect when attending a church service on Easter Sunday.

A talk on the empty tomb and then testimonies.
One brother referenced the miracle of the atonement from the angle of Christ choosing to go throught with it. During his testimony he suggested that the third of the hosts of heaven that opted out of Plan A did so in part because they didn't trust that Christ would go through with it, that when the time came, having His own agency, He wouldn't subject himself to the whole process. Hence the joy when He did.
I'd never heard it put that way and thought that was interesting and something to contemplate.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Had a nice Sacrament Meeting today. Yes, I wouldn't say it was really Easter-focused, but it was F&T meeting, so I can't really fault anyone for that. Typically, open mic meeting is painful beyond belief for me, but I actually enjoyed it. Not that there were any special testimonies, but I was in that rare frame of mind where I could focus on the positive and appreciate people's quirky comments as their unique flavor of faith. I don't spend that much time in that world. I wish I could do it more often. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Yes, but itsn't it pathetic that there is a need to send a memo directing wards to speak of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday?Originally posted by pelagius View PostFor what is worth, the church sent a letter out to Bishops about a month ago with instructions about Easter Sunday. The letter instructed (in part) that Sacrament meeting talks should focus on the resurrection of Jesus. Not sure why your ward deviated from the memo so significantly. We all trust our own unorthodoxies.

Our Bishop is a pretty letter-of-the-law type of guy, and the counselor who handles talks is a GA worshiping, very letter-of-the-law guy.I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

Ward mission leader said during his talk, "we all know this one football player who played for a team to the south of us. and well, I don't think I should say his name, but we all know that apparently he doesn't like most of us very much. after his first pro game a lot of profiles were done on him on ESPN and some of his teammates commented on how they didn't know him at all, but they knew he was a Mormon. So when he said the most vulgar things in the huddle, they were really shocked. Now, is that the appropriate way to represent the LDS church?"
I'm so glad we're making a habit of bringing up individual's "sins" over the pulpit. Good times.what I am is what I am and I does what I does.

I spent most of Sunday School day dreaming about the miracles of Christ in the Scriptures after a good talk in sacrament meeting.
By far my favorite miracle is when Christ calms the sea after being woken by the Apostles. I don't know if it's the many paintings that have been done portraying that event, or because it’s the subject of one of my favorite hymns, "Master the Tempest is Raging." Something about that miracle inspires me more than the rest.
