  • Today I learned that the 2nd Counselor in our Bishopric doesn't know how to pronounce "disconsolate", although he gamely tried two or three variations as he announced the opening hymn.

I also learned that the family speaking today decided to get rid of their TV in part because of the immodest dress of the news reporters.

All in all, I really enjoyed Sacrament Meeting today.

      Were they watching Telemundo?

One of those. The wife said she liked to keep track of her homeland. When she said it, I told me wife we needed to start watching Univision.

We had a very inspiring meeting as well. One recent convert spoke, and she gave a beautiful and sometimes very funny talk (even if the humor was mostly at the expense of me ... She is a Tuck students and had a number of jokes aimed at the Tuck professor in the ward). The other non-youth speaker was a another Tuck student who 10 years ago joined the church as a foreign exchange student. He talked about his spiritual journey as he lost touch with the church when he returned to China (not sure how he could've possibly stayed in touch with church given the circumstances) and then eventually rekindled his testimony after returning to the United States a number of years later. Both were remarkable talks. Plus, my middle daughter was the youth speaker, and also hit it out off the park (well, I may be biased on that one).

that is a nice hymn. I've sung it in a quartet a few times. good to remember that earth really doesn't have any sorrows that heaven cannot heal.

They weren't allowed to have the camera in the chapel proper, but they were allowed to have the doors opened and film into the chapel. I ended up sitting right behind the subject and his family, so I was camera-conscious most of the meeting.
Here is the link to the Belgian film crew's piece. It featured the member of our ward who is in the Mo Tab Choir, but is about the church as a whole, sparked by Mitt Romney's candidacy. They also interview Richard Marriott, and there is a snippet about a lady who left the church, and the show her browsing Mormonstories.com.

The video is in Flemish or Dutch, not sure which. The piece on the church starts at 25:40.

Nice church policy violation by Mr. Marriott. And on camera, no less!

                  • Today I learned that there are people in the ward who have written down everything our bishop has says over the past five years and who cite to it with no less authority than President Monson. The recorded quotes are usually the more bizarre and outlandish ones and include a prophecy by the bishop that some of us would be alive for the second coming (I remember these things differently).

Maximum eye rolling capacity today. I jumped at the chance to take my noisy three year old out to the foyer.

                    • It is prom season, so today many youth showed up rocking their prom gear. One of the prom attendees was a youth speaker today. She became emotional recounting the details of her righteous date.....I guess her parents "challenged" her and her date (as well as another youth couple in the ward) to be home by 10:00 and to listen to "righteous music" in the car.....so they listened to EFY tunes. She said she really felt the spirit on the date.
                      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

                              • 5th Sundays are always a crap shoot. We have a high councilman talking about the "every member a custodian " program. About how it isn't about saving money etc.
