We listened to the Killers in the chapel for our 5th Sunday activity.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

Learned during today's interview with the bishop that I can't even begin to work on having my priesthood restored until I'm able to attend church regularly. This cannot happen unless we hire yet another person to stay with my mother while I'm gone, and we are already paying way too much $$$ for at-home caregivers. It's been great, having the opportunity to attend church because my sister is staying here for a few weeks, but once she returns to Montana I won't be able to leave mother alone unattended and will not be able to attend church. But the angst of the situation has taught me, seriously, how important the church is in my life, that being LDS comes first and foremost and nothing else about my life matters compared to it. That was a nice realization.

Three of our YW and two of their leaders spoke about girls' camp. It turned out to be a great meeting. The girls were funny and sweet, the leaders too.

Maximum eye rolling capacity today. I jumped at the chance to take my noisy three year old out to the foyer.

I'm guessing it would be a great experience for you to give your mother a priesthood blessing. Keep at it, we need you.

I have to imagine that there are members, who if they knew your circumstances would gladly rotate sitting with your mother on Sunday mornings or give funds to help with caregivers and help you reach your goal, especially if they knew what it meant to you. I would think your HT would be an initial contact point, if not the bishop himself.

Today was Ward Conference for us. The Stake President said Special Interest Groups as well as being forced to pay for other people's abortions are what the prophets were referring to when they said 'In the last days the things that are bad will be called good and those things that are good will be called bad." He rambled on about his tours in Vietnam, his homeless brother dying in Liberty Park, and redoubling our efforts to read the BOM three times in three months. Sacrament meeting was an hour and 40 min.

I learned that if you are a male auxiliary your chances of having the secretary position filled by a ward "project" is close to 100%. If you are an all female auxiliary your chance of having a ward "superstar" as secretary is about 100%.

To his credit he chose some very polished and eloquant councelors who once again gave very inspiring and simple messages. They invited the spirit in and he spent 45 min chasing it out.

This wasn't at church, per se, but I learned that antis get really pissed when you don't roll down your car window so they can hand you their literature as you leave a temple open house.

I learned yesterday that the Hour of Power in which primary kids spend singing the same songs over and over is called "Sharing Time." The issue had popped up in this thread recently and I just noticed in the primary manual that there was a reference to "sharing time." I had never heard it called by that name.

My next question: why is it called "sharing time?" This ward is my only frame of reference, but our Primary consists of two meetings, each one lasting an hour. One of the meetings is a traditional party affiliate meeting for indoctrination and propaganda, complete with chalkboard and other visual aids. The other hour is a massive gathering of little mafiosi foot soldiers in the main primary room. The Primary capo di tutti capi will conduct, welcomes new recruits, oversees the reading of a brief talk and scripture, and expresses an abundance of general love towards la famiglia in the room. Often there is some crying for effect. She then hands the time over to the Underboss, who leads all caporegime and their soldiers in structured song for the remainder of the meeting. Sometimes Made Men will pop in, stand in the back of the room, and share a few thoughts with the entire crew, always under the oath of omerta, of course.

Beyond that, nothing else happens. What am I missing? Was Primary different back in the day?

The 12 year old youth speaker wrote his own talk and quoted from Goethe. He pronounced it "Go-eth." No one noticed.
