We had three great talks. One was by a new deacon. His knees were literally shaking while he read his talk, but he persevered through and did a great job.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I hope he railed against OW and mentioned how he had something these women would never have, just to keep the narrative going.

My wife taught a lesson in YW. I didnt know they did away with traditional manuals and have moved to an online approach, giving instructors various topics from which to choose and form a lesson. Is this a recent change? The topic was women and the priesthood so I can see the advantage of this new approach, allowing teachers to be reactionary to the issues of the day rather than mapping out weekly topics years in advance.

I apologized to all the dads at the beginning of my GD lesson. On father's day, we were about to discuss the rottenest father in the OT, and how God punished him for his poor parenting skills by wiping out all the men of his extended family.

I thought it had potential, but after the first two episodes it just kind of lays there and looks at the ceiling.

Here is one of several threads on the topic:

I didn't see a thread on the new youth curriculum. We're training our youth SS and YM/YW teachers and leaders today. I like that the YM and YW will have the same lessons. I wonder how well it will work in practice.

The YM youth speaker in my ward brought out the ETB quote about why woman shouldn't be working.

I learned that I really love hearing Amazing Grace sung from the pulpit. Two of our young women sang it and did a wonderful job. It was especially nice, as a kid who comes out to work for me every summer and is like another son came to church with us yesterday. He normally goes to the Catholic church every week, but I invited him to come with us, since it's always nice to sit with people you know on Father's Day.

Hiked to a waterfall and then went swimming at this cool fresh water swim hole in Kahalu'u. Next Sunday I'll be poolside somewhere in the SoCal desert.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Hopefully you thought of me, as seems to be the case for a lot of people around here.

By the time we finished a "surprise" Father's Day breakfast and got everyone (my daughter and I) ready and on the way, church was ending. I asked my daughter if she wanted to go in and say hi to her friends or if she just wanted to go home. Roaming the halls, she found about four friends to greet and I collected my Father's Day bounty, a Tootsie Roll Pop. What, if anything, was distributed to the dads in your wards?

We got a bag of assorted homemade cookies. They all looked very good, and I was pleasantly surprised with the offering. However, one of the cookies had peppermint chips in it, which tainted the entire bag of cookies. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against taint, so long as it is a good strong taint. This peppermint taint was pretty weak and just made everything taste pretty blah.
