I always feel a twinge of guilt when this happens, even though I know that the very fact that they see me means that they're as guilty as I am, and probably moreso, because I really had run out of Coke Zero.

It was kind of awkward the first time I ran into the bishop at the liquor store.

Shopping for his wife who uses alcohol in her recipes and the alcohol burns off. I use to give my ex $100 everytime she had to verify that to someone.

      • I learned yesterday that my EQP apparently doesn't think I'm too important.

The 2nd counselor and I were entering tithing yesterday afternoon. The EQPs's tithing slip didn't match his check. I tried to call him - no answer. We looked for another number with no success. The 2nd counselor tries to call him at the same number 2 minutes later. He enthusiastically answers the phone, "Hey 2nd Counselor! What's up?"

I was the EQP's counselor before ward clerk, so it's not as if the guy didn't recognize my number. The 2nd counselor made an awkward joke about it after hanging up.

And so begins another ward clerk's path to apostasy.

        • I learned that maybe we're moving past the scripture pew reservation strategy.

Probably for the primary program. Need the first few rows reserved for the teachers.

Yep. We had it today. Best meeting of the year.

I'm actually thinking it was leftover from stake conference last week.

                • Bye week (stake conference) was spent in the woods hunting with my dad. We brought the oldest boy with us for the afternoon hunt. I love spending time in the outdoors.

What were you hunting? We went out yesterday and shot a couple roosters on my son's first pheasant hunt - first two pheasants I've shot in Utah in about 5 years other than on a pheasant farm. Fun stuff.

                      • My MIL is in a local rest home in the Alzheimer's unit so each week after sacrament my wife and I skip the other two meetings and attend with her. They do a short service conducted by volunteers from our stake. The entire meeting is 30-40 minutes max. Hymn, prayers, sacrament (deacons from our stake) and then a musical number and a short talk. The musical numbers are always top notch. A few weeks ago they did an piano-violin number that might be the best thing I have ever heard at church. Two professional musicians. This week it was a vocalist from BYU and she was superb. It is quite touching to see so many volunteers give such great service. These elderly people don't have a lot of dignity left (most are in diapers) but they are treated with deep respect and love. It will be a blessing when my MIL passes, but I am going to miss attending church there.

When I was in the Grandview 1st Ward from 1999-2002, my calling was to teach Gospel Doctrine. I taught 3 times a month in the ward, and once a month here: http://goo.gl/maps/riaKW

I loved it. The people loved having me there, and once word got around that I can sing fairly well, I got asked to sing a lot, especially during the holidays. It was sad, however, when people would die, which was pretty often.

I remember Cove Point. They were in the same ward we were in when we first got married and lived at Willowbrook in 1984. On Mothers Day 1984 the SS president handed out flowers and had all the ladies stand, and then they played a strange little sit down game where they gave out candy bars. "If you're under 80, please sit down." "If you're under 85 please sit down." "if you're under 90, please sit down." If you're under 95 please sit down." There were two ladies left standing, and they went year by year, until the 99 yo old had to sit down, and the 101 year old claimed the oldest mother in the ward candy bar. The competition was epic, because the 99 year old was visibly upset when she didn't win. If she would have been wearing a helmet she would have thrown it.

A 30-40 minute meeting with sacrament, great music, and one short talk. Please tell me this is a pilot program that will be rolled out to entire church.

I'm guessing it has been rolled out to everyone who is living in a convalescent or rehab center.

Talk to your SP and maybe you could get called to be the meeting coordinator. Your job is basically to conduct the meeting, and the wards are responsible to provide the priesthood, talks, music, etc.
