I am legitimately afraid that something will come of this.
Did he ask for a vote from those opposed?

He took issue with my characterization of Martin Harris (all of this based on the D&C and contemporary accounts - I was basically saying he could never satisfy himself of doubt before the witness) and said that "maybe in the future I shouldn't throw Martin Harris under the bus". The way he said it was as condescending as anything I've heard.

I did nothing and laughed him off. My wife looked at me and had to stop laughing. I was angry and nearly let him have it.

The lesson was otherwise a success.

Did he not like the props you brought to church?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

He wasn't even there for that. Didn't even see them.

I have great sympathy for you , but I'm worried at how worked up you're getting. I used to get annoyed like you do, but then I learned of the liberating power of apathy.

If I'd been teaching and somebody was annoying me, I'd just say , "That's an interesting opinion", and then I'd move on. If somebody didn't like it, let them teach the class.

I know what you mean - but this time was different. I fear a whole reporting will be made to the stake. Maybe I'm paranoid because of recent stake stuff.

OK, so they report to the stake. Big deal. They're not gonna ex-communicate you. If they release you, so what. If you keep your cool and just keep on with the lesson, what are they going to report? That you taught a good lesson??

Personally, the Martin Harris story is more compelling because of his prior doubts and human weaknesses. The fact that he changed his opinion overnight and stayed true to it, even through periods of estrangement, makes the story all the more fascinating.

With respect, you're not addressing the concerns that I have. I understand what you're saying, and they are good points, but they are unrelated to the issues I have. Not your fault.

Any issue you have, will be resolved instantly by your lack of giving a crap.

Unfortunately, apathy is precisely not the answer.

I'm confused then, what are your issues? What could have made this situation better?

I care about my opinion. I care about my wife's opinion, because I respect her. And I care about God's opinion.

I fulfill my callings faithfully to the best of my abilities and if somebody doesn't like the way I do it, I couldn't care less.

You're right, I don't think I quite understand what is stressing you. If everything goes terribly wrong in this situation, what's the worse thing that can happen to you?

Besides not throwing Martin Harris under the bus, of course.

                              • I think I may have mentioned this in the thread before, but there's something that's been bugging me that I wanted to say.

Our stake president has this rule that they close the doors when the sacrament begins and nobody is supposed to go in, which seems normal to me. They also don't take the sacrament outside in the foyer to those waiting out there, which is the weird part. He says it encourages people to be on time. I say it makes people not take their screaming toddlers outside because they want to participate in the sacrament.

It might not seem like a big deal, but our 21 month toddler was melting down and I was in the back of the chairs in the middle of the water portion trying to get her to calm down. finally my wife came up and took her from me, when I said "I think our stake president is an idiot.", whispered in her ear.

The water came after that and my wife took her out.

We ended up getting in an argument about it at home. I just think it's totally stupid to not take the sacrament outside. I get what the SP is trying to do, but it actually creates a less reverent sacrament meeting because of people who don't want to take their screaming toddlers outside and not renew their covenants.

I guess in the end it's what's in your heart, even if you end up missing hte sacrament, but I hate this kind of crap that has nothing to do with the church, and really is just some idea someone came up with. Stuff like taking the sacrament with your right hand or the deacons holding their hand behind their back while they pass. It has nothing to do with how we as people live the gospel.

I suppose it's not a big deal, but it's more the principle. We talked about it shortly today at our Super Bowl party. My sister says i shouldn't go to the temple because I am not supporting my local leader. I say my local leader is a person that I disagree with.

I dunno, it just bugs me. I shouldn't get bothered over stupid stuff, but when it caused an argument between my wife and I, it got me thinking more about it.
Will donate kidney for B12 membership.
