Fair enough, but it's a fundamental difference from reading a book from beginning to end, or even in longish increments. Plus, going to google ensures that you're getting someone else's interpretation; not necessarily a bad thing, but again reading the text in a way that's very different from its original (or earlier) forms.

Edit: let me reiterate. I'm not anti-electronic formats. Rather, i think there are still some uncertainties out there in how they'll impact knowledge transmission, understanding, and the way narratives are shaped, transmitted, and remembered. To this end, I think paper-copies maintain some advantages (and obviously some disadvantages). Especially when we're dealing with genres that weren't originally meant for the tablet-reader, as well as with respect to us dinosaurs who grew up on paperbacks (I think a generation on will have entirely new reactions).

    • Also, I'm amused by the juxtaposition of reading the KJV of the Bible on an ipad.

It's such an apt example of the clashes that can occur between tradition and innovation in culture and society. [Some] LDS can embrace the utility of cutting-edge electronics but shun more recent translations of the Bible as being doctrinally less accurate than the KJV.

Just as Josiah's compilation and abridgements/redactions changed the Hebrew religion significantly, I wonder if the move to electronics will have an impact on doctrine as well in the long-term; at the very least, I think it will impact the way scripture is used in LDS practice.

I have a free app on my iPad that lets you read parallel translations of the bible with up to three at a time. It supports dozens of translations. I love it.

Yup yup! Plus it's also easier to use the NIV stealthily.

That never occurred to me; I love that idea. Does anyone know if there's an app for a concordance like Strong's? That would be cool.
            Not that, sickos.

              • A few days ago, everyone in the ward received an e-mail signed by the SP, and forwarded by the Bishop. It said, in short, "fast and pray for rain." There was a 40 percent chance of rain the following day, and by golly, it rained!!!.....bucketfuls!!

Between this "miracle" of rain and the Chick-fil-a thing, FATM is gonna be a doozie.

It was for my wife for a long time. She seems to have discontinued wearing them when we hit out 30s though.

                    • Fishnets are only going to work in very limited circumstances. Unless you are using them to reenact Jesus calling Peter and Andrew, religious services are not one of those circumstances.

I did the same thing once with "Pray" by mc hammer, but it was only the 1st Counselor in the SP in attendance. He didn't give me any problems. It was fun bearing my testimony by saying, "we gots to pray just to make it today. That's why we pray."

They might also prove useful for the "Go and sin no more" sketch.

I've seen two women wear fishnet to work in the last month. I was dumbfounded. One was wearing black fishnet with brown shoes. That's when I realized I must be trapped in a nightmare of some kind.

Seems like a dream for the judgmental type.
