I learned that two missionaries can leave the same week, one to Mexico, the other to Brazil, and come back the same week, and can have a Alma and the Sons of Mosiah moment when they see each other again. This moment came at the pulpit as the Bishop called them forward to receive their missionary plaques. They embraced, a long embrace... and frankly, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was a special moment.

Oh, nice story clackamascoug.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

So homosexuality is a choice.Originally posted by Moliere View PostI learned that in the preexistence I was foreordained to be a scout leader."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

I was certainly down on the trek thing, especially when we were asked to be a "ma and pa" to a family of 12 kids randomly grouped from the stake. But it turned out to be a really great experience. Two years later, I still dig it when cute young women (my "daughters") come running up to give their pa a hug. It was an uplifting and educational experience for all of us.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAs you may recall, I have been quite cynical of the whole "trek" fad. Our ward did it a couple of weeks ago and today we had a 5th Sunday meeting consisting of youth and leaders sharing thoughts and insights gained from the experience. It was a great meeting. I hereby eat crow.

I got your plaque right here...Originally posted by myboynoah View PostPlaques!?!?!? They give out plaques? I want my plaque. Oh, nice story clackamascoug.
Seriously, it was a spontaneous show of affection between two young men who came home proud, and it happened at the right time and place. And then they gave their talks and ruined the mood. (Finished at 25 after)

I think it means God chooses if you are gay or not. If you are active in the church and never get called to scouts then there is a good possibility that God made you gay.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostSo homosexuality is a choice."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. I better go inactive or get called into scouts soon or I have some explaining to do to my wife.Originally posted by Moliere View PostIf you are active in the church and never get called to scouts then there is a good possibility that God made you gay.

The only scouting I was called upon to do was a merit badge counselor. I was good too, nobody ever failed."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Our 5th Sunday yesterday was about the Duty to God program. Not a bad idea, the part that didn't make sense to me was why the YW were there and why they were asked to talk about how important DtG is.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostAs you may recall, I have been quite cynical of the whole "trek" fad. I kept thinking that it wouldn't have been hard to make the meeting about DtG and YWIE, but not a mention was made of the YW personal progress program.Get confident, stupid

The bishop looks nervous.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostThey made it.
I have learned that PAC's gift with words is at least partially genetic. His daughter just knocked it out of the park with her talk.
Lots of pressure on Parrot Head.I learned to definitely take CA at his word -- when he says he's live blogging the talk on CUF, he's not BS-ing. Though he did condense it and skipped out on my Nirvana reference and my artistic license with Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings lyrics.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostParrot Head just told us that "life is not like Settlers of Catan". Several confused looks in the congregation. I think they just assume this is deep doctrine with which they are not familiar.
I restrained myself from showing out "Nerd!!"I have nothing else to say at this time.

Parrot Head, being new to the ward, may not be aware, but a couple of months ago, the bishop announced a couple of new ward policies:
1. Youth should not bring phones/ipads or related accessories to church
2. No one, including adults, should use phones/ipads or related accessories in sacrament meetings. Using them to look up scriptures or prepare lessons is NOT a valid excuse.
My wife isn't always thrilled with my open disregard of the bishop's requests, especially when I am making fun of Parrot Head on CUF.
I will say in PH's defense that his talk met the high standard created by his wife. There were possibly fewer tears, but definitely more pop culture references, though I admit I missed the Waylon/Willie one. I may have been yelling at my kids for playing Temple Run at the time.

Your bishop sounds like a fun guy, that kind of hardline attitude about technology is going to spike youth interest in the gospel!Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostMy wife started giving me dirty looks.
