Happy Labor Day!
Feeding 10-12 adults and the usual assortment of kids. This is a last minute BBQ, so the menu will be:
DDD's chicken
DT's beans
Homemade potato salad
ABTs (first time trying them)
Garden fresh cucumber and tomato salad
Watermelon (sliced, not the Relief Society balls)
We're throwing this all together with little notice. But I have no doubts that it'll be great. Pics to follow."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Ribs are on. I'll pull them off when they're done smoking. And then I'll tent them and put them in the oven so I can smoke the tip, and chicken and ABTs. Then I'll crank up the heat finish the tip and and ribs. I love the smoking juggle.Last edited by Surfah; 09-03-2012, 11:01 AM."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I made a rookie mistake: I ran out of pellet pretty early in the cook.
:anger:

Good thing everyone is going to be late."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tried every dirty trick to cut me down, but I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch."

Total disaster. I ran out of apple pellets, and had to use BBQers Delight oak/charcoal. It was gross. It seemed like everyone liked it, but I was not happy. I felt like I was eating a burnt log. I'm totally depressed and mad at myself. Never again will I use those pellets."Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Bummer, SJS. Sorry to hear that.
I think I have enough pellets in my garage to keep my smoker running for one solid month straight. I am not kidding either."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I made an investment into my cooking future this evening because of all you of you jerks and brought home a Traeger Texas. Thanks to all the food porn I have witnessed in these threads I couldn't help myself. I was like a kid on Christmas purchasing this thing.
I think I am going to try a Tri-Tip on Thursday night. After reading that thread, it looks like I need to go with the Spade L beef marinade. They have it at my local Smith's.Last edited by Hot Lunch; 09-05-2012, 08:28 AM."Take it to the Bank"

Good to see you. And welcome to the cult."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I tried buying a Traeger "from a guy" folks in Utah know.
The weekend of hunting season is not the weekend to try and get in to see that guy.
When the next Roadshow hits Bakersfield...I am jumping in.
I even bought my first full packer. It is sitting in the freezer now.

I am going to look at one of these after work today.

It is a Bayou Classics Cypress ceramic grill. Found it on Craigslist for a steal (less than a 1/4 of the price of a new one). I will use it primarily for steaks and Tri-tip and possibly as a back up to the Yoder if it checks out ok. it is approx the same size as a large BGE."I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a$$, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it". - Tommy Callahan III
