It's getting to be where the cuffers without a smoker are the weirdos.

Today I was in Malad, Idaho. On the way up I noticed a sign for a BBQ place in Malad. So the boy and I gave it a shot. It was just a little shack. They had about 5 smokers chained together in front and about 10 picnic tables outside. I was encouraged. On top of that, the place was rocking. A line 10 deep to order and it stayed that way the entire time we were there. Another encouraging sign. I ordered two side meats. 6 ounces of tri-tip and two ribs. It sucked. No flavor, the tip was cooked like brisket without rub and sliced deli thin. They did put some tasty green peppers and onions with it, but it was not good overall. And people were loving it.

I'm convinced that any one of us here could clean up with a BBQ counter place in the West. I'm also convinced that it is just dumb to buy BBQ and expect it to come even close what we all can do at home. I don't know why I don't live this principal when I know it be true and everlasting.

I bought a "pulled pork" sandwich at RES last weekend. I put it in quotes because it had the consistency and color of a sloppy joe. It was not good at all. I try to avoid BBQ now for the same reason. What's the point?

I did. It needs a new gasket, but it looks like it has only been used a couple times. The thing was 1/2 full of ash. It had a couple black widows in it also. I picked it up for less than $200.00. I am going to order a Large BGE pizza stone and a plate setter for it and possibly a BGE top vent to see if it will fit on there. The Bayou top vent seems really cheap. The Bayou is no BGE but for the price, I can live with it.

I'll get some pics of it tomorrow after I clean it up.

I told myself... If Surfah ever drops the coin and buys a Traeger, I am in.

Sure as shit...I get a text from DT "Surfah bought a Traeger from Costco."

Just started my one hour burn in. Doing some ribs tomorrow, so I have to read that whole thread at Church.

I picked up 3 of these today. They hold 40 lbs of pellets. Going to use two for pellets and one for charcoal.

$12 at Home Depot if anyone is interested. They aren't moisture proof, but they are rain proof.
