That looks great! I remember when mine was that clean. I really like the BBQ'rs delight pellets, but I cant seem to get anyone to ship them to me at a decent price. The yoder retains heat really well, but the thick steel also causes issues in the winer and it takes alot of pellets to keep it hot. I'd really concider the thermal blanket for it.

    Congrats!

Also, always cover your heat deflector with aluminum foil. It makes clean up a breeze. I'd also get one of those cheapo shop vac's and dedicate it to smoker clean up. I usually clean out my firepot every other use.

        Sage advice.

I religiously use foil, but still seem to always get grease/fat under the foil somehow. It is really frustrating.

Oh yeah, watch the grease bucket. When I had the Traeger, it was a non-issue since it was right on the end of the smoker. On the Yoder, it is more under the smoker and I sometimes forget. I remembered when I tried to lift the smoker onto my trailer and spilled 3/4 of the bucket of grease on my driveway....

Thanks for the foil tip. Will do.

I think I'll ask for the thermal jacket for Christmas.

Update: I used olive oil to season the pit once I hit 350. In the two minutes I had it open, I dropped 20 degrees. Gotta be mindful of keeping that cover closed.

same issue. Very frustrating. Also, when cleaning with a shop vac, be careful not to suck out the pellets from the auger to the pot or you will have to prime the auger again. Not an issue just takes a bit of time.

x2. That thing is nice. So who are the Yoderites? CJF, DT and now SJS? Or does CJF have something different?

A picture of a brand new Yoder and a BYU flag flying in the background?

That is the most beautiful sight these eyes ever saw.

Hot spots....how to fix them? I have noticed that temps on the right side of the smoker are higher than temps on the left. Shoulders on the right cook faster. Even smaller stuff like chicken breasts cook faster. What have you done to even out the temps?

I think this is part of what the fire bricks help with. I saw a post somewhere online where a guy had built up with fire bricks around the firepot and put a cast iron griddle setting on top of the. So there was an inch or two between the griddle and the firepot. That would certainly distribute the heat evenly.
