Also, have you become a good quick scoper? I can never seem to get that to work.
Sure. I'd probably put secondary weapons as more important in a sniper class than any other class, as a sniper is so specialized and difficult to use in close to mid-range situations. I recommend a dedicated close range weapon (i.e. spas 12 with grip or akimbo g18's) in order to balance this. For me, at least, this means with my sniper class I'm either on the periphery of a firefight or in the middle of it; assault rifles are just too dangerous at mid range in a sniper class.

My first couple of prestiges, I used only the Intervention. The Intervention is great and can usually yield one shot kills. However, if you're not to the point where your first shot is hitting your (sometimes laterally) moving target, I do not recommend it as it is a bolt action rifle. It seems to be the most high risk/reward sniper rifle. Also, if you're a quick scoper, this is what you want to use. For some reason the action of looking down the scope, which activates auto aim and makes quick scoping work, is the fastest on this.

I then moved on to the Barrett .50 cal. I used this gun a lot in COD4, but its behavior is substantially different in this game. The huge amount of recoil this gun has basically puts it in the same boat as the Intervention, although it is more forgiving. With steady aim, this gun is quite a bit more effective. It's not as powerful as the Intervention, but you should still be getting one shot kills if you're shooting above the waist.

This prestige, I have been using the M21 EBR. I used the M21 a lot in COD4, and this is an excellent, far more versatile weapon. There is almost no recoil, especially when silenced, which allows 3-4 quick shots in succession to take out a target. This also means that you can no scope close range enemies (especially with steady aim pro) with pretty good success. However, this weapon has small clips and comes with very little ammo. I always have scavenger pro on when using it. But I have come to love this gun during this last prestige.

I am not a good quickscoper. I have done it, and can pull it off once in a while, but I am by no means good at it. It just doesn't make a lot of sense as a strategy to me, at least. If you want a one shot kill from close range, use a shotgun. Although, quickscope kills are really satisfying and pretty badass.

Must haves in a sniper class include:

    Claymores-flank protection is key.

Stopping power pro-turn shots that might not be one shot kills into definite one shot kills.

Thermal scope-obnoxious to be on the receiving end of, but amazing when picking enemies out of cover.

Sleight of hand pro or scavenger pro: sleight of hand greatly increases the speed with which you can look through the sight, but sometimes scavenger is necessary, as outlined above. Scavenger also allows you to scavenge claymores and use more than one, which can be great when you're in the frequent situation of having more than one access point to your flank.

Awesome Cam. I've logged way too many hours over the last couple of days, and I have been focusing on Sniping. Since I still don't have claymores, I have been messing around with tactical insertions instead, but they sure leave me feeling exposed. I find myself switching to the G18 Akimbos and watching my six more than I am looking down range.

Here are some of my setups that I am toying around with:

      B.50/FMJ
G18 Akimbo or Spaz w/ Grip
      Sleight of Hand Pro
      Stopping Power Pro
      Steady Aim Pro

This is probably the version that has brought me the most success. With FMJ AND Stopping Power, I can nick a toe and still get the K.

      B.50/FMJ
      G18 Akimbo
      Sleight of Hand Pro
      Cold Blooded
      Steady Aim Pro

I hate getting thermal scoped and having to take cover against air support, so I've been trying a Cold Blooded version. It seems to work pretty well, but I don't think I'm building up as many kill streaks, so maybe not as good for me.

      B.50/Silenced
      Spaz with Grip
      Sleight of Hand Pro
      Stopping Power
      Steady Aim Pro

I like this one too, but I definitely notice a difference on the long shots with the silencer.

Anyhow, I'm having fun with this, and have built up to level 23 on my third prestige using almost all sniping. I find that I run really hot and cold. Sometimes I will be on the move, shooting at a moving target and everything comes together like ballet. Other times I will be prone, staring into a doorway, and the dude will pop up and I will pop off three shots and not hit.

      • I'm a bit disappointed. I downloaded the new maps and was excited to see what there was. I played for a little over an hour and only played on original maps. Oh well, at least I had a few good games.
        Not that, sickos.

when you join a game, you have to join the Stimulus games at the bottom of the list. That is the only place you will be able to play them for the first couple of days.

I played 4 of the new maps. They are pretty cool. I just need to learn them. The only one I didn't play was Carnival. Trailer Park is going to be changeling. So many little windows you can hide in and camp. It could be Niku's new favorite map.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to play more tonight...

I can imagine it will be a claymore lover's paradise.

I played four games and three of them were on Carnival. That map is sweet.

I also played Fuel and liked that map as well. I'm anxious to play some of the other ones tonight. (:

                  • I had a good night last night.

I went 25-5 on Estate. Got all 3 of my kill streaks in.

Next map...Rust. 23-2 with all 3 kill streaks.

Really good night for me and my style. I found a decent spot on Rust that you can hold by yourself with a claymore that hands out some pretty sweet killstreak stuff.

                    • I started out last night playing the new map playlists. I got demolition on Fuel 4 times in a row, then capture the flag on Carnival but everyone said it sucked and vetoed it, which sent us back to capture the flag on Fuel.

I hate all those game types, so I switched back to TDM for the night. I'm sure I'll get plenty of time to play the new maps in the coming weeks.

FTR, fuel was pretty cool. Big, lots of places to hide, lots of wide open spots too. Could get annoying in a TDM without many people. Would be good for Ground War.

Oh, I also played one game on Strike. It feels like they've added a few rooms rooms since porting it from COD4. Good map.

Me and HL did the same. I think Carnival is a kick ass map. I love it. Trailer park is so so, and I have yet to play fuel. Strike was one of my favorite maps on COD4. CTF sucks my impressive nuts. As does demolition.

I'm going to guess July 3.

The thing I like about Carnival is there are a lot of good hiding places, but there are also a lot of places that are easy to identify. Clown mouth, castle, bumper cars, roller coaster, etc. You can say where you are at and know. It's not like some of the other maps where it takes twelve words to describe. Communication on that map will be awesome.
