My first couple of prestiges, I used only the Intervention. The Intervention is great and can usually yield one shot kills. However, if you're not to the point where your first shot is hitting your (sometimes laterally) moving target, I do not recommend it as it is a bolt action rifle. It seems to be the most high risk/reward sniper rifle. Also, if you're a quick scoper, this is what you want to use. For some reason the action of looking down the scope, which activates auto aim and makes quick scoping work, is the fastest on this.
I then moved on to the Barrett .50 cal. I used this gun a lot in COD4, but its behavior is substantially different in this game. The huge amount of recoil this gun has basically puts it in the same boat as the Intervention, although it is more forgiving. With steady aim, this gun is quite a bit more effective. It's not as powerful as the Intervention, but you should still be getting one shot kills if you're shooting above the waist.
This prestige, I have been using the M21 EBR. I used the M21 a lot in COD4, and this is an excellent, far more versatile weapon. There is almost no recoil, especially when silenced, which allows 3-4 quick shots in succession to take out a target. This also means that you can no scope close range enemies (especially with steady aim pro) with pretty good success. However, this weapon has small clips and comes with very little ammo. I always have scavenger pro on when using it. But I have come to love this gun during this last prestige.
I am not a good quickscoper. I have done it, and can pull it off once in a while, but I am by no means good at it. It just doesn't make a lot of sense as a strategy to me, at least. If you want a one shot kill from close range, use a shotgun. Although, quickscope kills are really satisfying and pretty badass.
Must haves in a sniper class include:
Claymores-flank protection is key.
Stopping power pro-turn shots that might not be one shot kills into definite one shot kills.
Thermal scope-obnoxious to be on the receiving end of, but amazing when picking enemies out of cover.
Sleight of hand pro or scavenger pro: sleight of hand greatly increases the speed with which you can look through the sight, but sometimes scavenger is necessary, as outlined above. Scavenger also allows you to scavenge claymores and use more than one, which can be great when you're in the frequent situation of having more than one access point to your flank.
