Definitely makes me feel nostalgic, and it definitely feels like a Spielberg flick (I first noticed it with use of rays of light pouring through a doorway...classic Spielberg use of lighting). I'm only three episodes in, and I like it. The actress playing 11 is on point.
Finished it. I can understand the LOST comparisons. The explanation offered was sort of anti-climactic and silly.

I'm glad I watched the series, but I won't be on the edge of my seat waiting for season 2.

    • I believe that Stranger Things was originally designed to be a single season. So when the show got renewed, they had to add the lame segue for next year.

Interesting documentary. Her actions after her roommates death was weird but it's not like they were BFF's..

I've come to believe that no TV/streaming show is ever prepared for anything beyond season 1.

          • Has anybody else watched El Marginal?

It is about an ex-cop going undercover to assist the release of a judge's daughter, who had been kidnapped. It is extremely dark, not family friendly, but appears authentic in its depiction of Latin America incarceration. The acting is quite good, in Spanish with subtitles. It has one season so far as I know. Be prepared for lots of profanity tirades. Just think of it as a BYU game against the Utes, and you get the picture.

For me it's the music direction. The music moves this whole thing forward every second of it. It's scored by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammed, and peppered with little montage/musical numbers/background presence by people like Faith Evans and Raphael Saddiq. So much fun to watch. They lifted the hallway-one-take-fight scene from Daredevil, but soundtracked it with Bring da Ruckus from Wu Tang. Such a fun show. I'll probably watch it 3 or more times through when all is said and done.
I agree. It was surprisingly well done, given the subject matter and format. The capable villains makes it worth watching.

Last week's Time cover story featured The White Helmets of Syria and, motivated by their story and dabrock's recommendation, we watched this during our pregame dinner last night and really enjoyed it (the dinner and the movie). As horrific as the backdrop is, watching dozens of these selfless rescuers inspires hope that perhaps good people in that god-forsaken land can eventually prevail. Since the war began it's estimated they've saved over 60,000 lives. Watching them extract a week-old baby from a collapsed apartment building is pretty emotional, and it's followed by a reunion two years later with the toddler and his rescuers. It's forty minutes well spent, and if nothing else, by the time it's over you'll know more about Aleppo than at least two of the presidential candidates.

                      • New episodes of Black Mirror came out on Netflix.

San Junipero is definitely worth watching. The inclusion of the Belinda Carlisle song is interesting.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                          • "Tales by the Light"

6 mini (23 minute for each) documentaries about photographers and the story behind their photos and what it took to get the "perfect" shot.

Just finished the first episode called "Submerged" about photos under water.

The video and photos are spectacular and seeing how they got the shots was way cool. One part showed the interaction of a Mother humpback whale and her calf was purely touching and way cool to see this calf interact with the divers in such a way I had never imagined was awesome.

                            Highly recommend!

I love this topic. There are so many photogs with a really nice automatic camera that don't know what it takes to get a great shot. One of my favorite YouTube videos of Devin Graham is this one where he talks about fighting for your passion and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the shot.

I didn't know this, but it is estimated that he is worth $10 million currently, and makes $250,000 per year off advert revenues. Not bad for a BYU dropout.

I was browsing and came across a Strange Documentary with no information but the title peaked my interest.. "I Am Your Father".

Began watching it and low and behold it is the untold story of Darth Vader and how the actor who played Darth Vader had his shinning moment (The reveal of his face in Return of the Jedi) pulled right out from under him by Lucas without even telling him..

                                Very interesting story!
