Spoiler for Some of last night's highlights:

Some satisfying resolution (esp. Mary and Matthew), but still others left to think about (I hope Bates will be released just as Thomas is about to become my Lord Grantham's valet). And I'm hopeful Mr. Strallen and Edith hook up. She's kind of a loser, but who couldn't be touched by her line, "If you think I'm going to give up on someone who calls me lovely...", or whatever.

Maggie Smith continues to get (and deliver) the best lines. When Sir Richard huffily announces that they'll probably never see him again, she asks calmly "Do you promise?" But she's not always so acerbic. She and Daisy were great together, and the Dowager Countess offered some very comforting words, "Well, forgive me, but that doesn't sound unloving. To me, that sounds as if you loved him a great deal."

It's going to be great when Grandmama (Shirley MacLaine) comes to Downton.

Filming of Season 3 is just starting. It will begin airing in the UK in the fall; in the U.S., not for nearly a year from now. I'll be working on Bates's appeal in the meantime.

What Edith did to Mary was beyond rotten, but I still feel sympathy for her. Mr. Strallen? I wouldn't wish that on her. Hopefully someone new will be brought into the mix.

Also, Mary's situation with being a licked cupcake is quite enlightening. It's unbelievable to me how important maintaining the appearance of virginity was then. Yikes! My mom always talks about how evil the world is now and what a horrible place it is to raise children, but I am so glad I am not raising my kids in that society.

And of course I hate Thomas, but whatever happened to him being gay? I think they need to spice things up again with a little forbidden love affair on his part. I am bored with his plight to become a valet.

I'm obsessed. OBSESSED. I watched both seasons in about 26 hours. The second season was a little more soapy than I would have liked, but Maggie Smith's lines make up for that.

We just finished a two-week Dowtonpalooza, seasons 1 and 2.

The Dowager is the total best character of the bunch. After that, Mary. Matthew can be such a drama queen. Frankly, I grew tired of the Mr. Bates ordeal. So many promises to little Anna, all of them broken.

But I'd watch the show just for the Dowager. THE BEST.
